No spare tire?

I received my RIT (adventure package, off road upgrade) 4 days ago. Driven it about 600 miles and everything thus far has more than met my expectations. What is annoying is that it didn't come with a spare tire (I was told by my Rivian delivery guy that I hadn't ordered one). I would think that having paid almost $90,000 for a truck would have a spare included. So far, no response from my Rivian guide about this. Anyone else with this issue?

Spare tire is an upgrade unless you live in a state that requires it. I paid $800 or whatever for a full size spare.

Yes, I think approximately 100% of the people who do not click the I want a spare tire button will not get the spare tire. But I would not consider that an "issue". Isn't that the expected outcome?

Why did expect them to include a spare tire when you chose not to click the yes I want a spare tire checkbox?

4 of my last 5 vehicle purchases didn't ship with a spare tire. The Rivian did because I checked the box.

My bad. I wasn't aware until now that I had to click the spare tire button. Having bought MANY high end vehicles during my lifetime, I have NEVER had to order a spare tire separately.

Here is a summary article on the topic from Consumer Reports. Sounds like in their testing 30% of new cars didn't come with a spare tire and only 10% had a full size spare.

I keep hearing "one will be included depending on if the state you live in requires it as part of the sale" -- I've been doing some googling and I can't find which states actually have this. I'm probably searching for the wrong words or something... anyone know a shortcut?

I'm pretty sure they only require a tire repair kit in those cases. My Tesla came with nothing at all (not even a Slime repair kit). In states that require something, they threw in a cheap compressor + can of slime.

A lot of EVs don't include spare at all to save weight.

I too prefer to have a spare tire, having been stranded well away from areas where roadside service will travel. But, several manufacturers are no longer including them. Tesla has never included them. Can get a fix a flat kit. Or, since the Rivian has a built-in air compressor, just by a cheap can of fix a flat for emergency situations and use the air compressor to fill the tire to get you safely to a place where you can get the tire repaired. Naturally, this does work if you have a complete blowout, but for most, it's a nail in the tire that drains it slowly. The above will be an adequate solution to get you safely where you need to get to to get the tire repaired or replaced. Or, I think you can just buy one from Rivian for $800?

If you plan on going off road or to remote locations, nothing beats a full size spare.

Otherwise, you save weight, and add storage space, if you don't have the spare.

I keep a pump, Slime and a tire repair kit in my Tesla.

$800 for a mounted OEM wheel and tire is a really good deal. Factory wheels by themselves are usually $800 plus.
