When I first picked up the Gen 1 quad, the rear hatch would just open up by itself in the middle of the night. It did this at least 3 times. I would just hard restart the R1S. I'm guessing it was a glitch that was fixed with an update.

I also had issues with the windows not rolling all the way up remotely. My confidence is definitely not 100% with Rivian in this regard.

Maybe recalibrate the windows though in the meantime. I think it's something you can do on your own. YT videos are out there.
I will probably run the window calibration routine today, but I would rather have Rivian find out what command was sent, and why, in the logs, so they can prevent this in the future. Recalibrating the window may just be a band aid that lets it happen again later after some unspecified things happens to cause the windows to need calibrating again.

Not really plausible. It was 3:50 in the morning, and nobody was in the car, and it was not a rear window, but the front passenger window.
I agree, not plausible for your situation. But I was responding to another post about a similar issue.

I've had this happen on both the passenger front and rear windows. My issue is that each window opened to the "vent" position on it's own independent of one another. I had it happen on several occations and brought it into the shop to get looked at. They tried running through the vehicle logs but they needed the specific times that the incident occured as the logs are rather lengthy. They wanted it down to the 5 minute window. I was unable to provide that. It's great that you actually have a video and a date/time window for them to investigate.

I was led down the same paths of, did me accidentally hitting the window switch on the way out, an accidental "vent" button push on the app, or I just left it open by accident. All of which were not plausable. However, I did not have proof that I did not do any of the above. I had a similar video from my driveway showing the window closed in the evening and then open in the "vent position" in the morning. However, I didn't have the exact timeframe.

The "fix" was a "software update" as this issue happened to our truck back in August/September of 2024. Fortunately, it has not happened since.

Curious to see what they find regarding your issue. (Thanks for sharing)

Seems like I need to put a new camera in my garage, just in case!

Question for you guys that have this problem. Have you done any mods to the truck that require tapping into the power source?

Great question! I actually tapped into the power source at the rear view mirror for my radar detector. I wonder if there is a correlation.

Why does this thread sound like a new version of Ghost in the Shell where everyone knows the machines gain consciousness but a hard reset puts everything back to normal?

This sucks ... good thing you have video evidence. I noticed a glowing appearing from the driver side, looked like the screen came on for a moment. Hopefully Rivian will cover the cost to remediate the interior that got wet. Door switches and seat controls are most likely damaged. I'd demand that they replace the door card and passenger seat.

This used to happen to my Tesla all the time. Another way that Rivian is a clone of Tesla, I guess. I have a window which I suspect might be doing this, but the car gets so much use I can’t be sure.

I'd like to think that the electronics in the Rivian are hardened to protect against this type of situation, but I suppose it's possible that it isn't: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-event_upset

In a nutshell, a single particle from space strikes a sensitive piece of electronic equipment (usually a memory buffer of some sort) and a bit gets flipped from 0 to 1. Depending on what that bit is responsible for, you end up with an incorrect value, which depending on the program that reads that address, could do anything from miscount electoral votes to thinking that a power window is being instructed to open up...

It's unlikely, but in the absence of anything else, and if Rivian's electronics aren't properly protected from cosmic radiation, then this is a possible scenario. Hopefully Rivian's telemetry logs will help to identify the cause.
That is an awesome failure more, but it’s more likely the window sensor is flaky. Even more likely is that Rivian software is infested with bugs.

Cell phone is secure, or at least more secure than most. I have worked in cyber several times and have a healthy paranoia about hacking, so have some best practices and tools to keep things as secure as I can. Also, as mentioned, the app cannot command a single window to roll down, so it would need to be a breach of the phone and a hack of the app itself to send that specific command. Hopefully none of that is the cause.
I took a look at the unofficial documentation of the Rivian Web Service APIs in Home Assistant. There is no known API to control a single window. Certainly, there could be a hidden API but that’s unlikely. And to access that API targeting a vehicle it has to use a verified login, so it’s unlikely it was a hack. The simplest answer is usually the correct answer - a glitch in the Rivian Matrix.
