I tried out Apple Music with Dolby this morning after installing the update, and I have decided I'd like to go the Apple Music route going forward. However, I need to figure out a solution for podcasts.

Previously, I was a big fan of Youtube Music, but switched to Spotify when we got the R1S. Spotify is OK, not great, and the app in the Rivian definitely has it's faults. Both of those have podcasts included though, which Apple Music does not.

What solution are people using? I would prefer to avoid another subscription, and I'd also like to avoid streaming podcasts via bluetooth, as that eliminates any benefit of having a built in app in the Rivian. My first thought was Audible, but combined with Apple Music, that's well over $20/mo, when previously Spotify was about $12/mo for the same music and podcasts (lower quality though). My next option was Amazon Music Unlimited, but that's still $10/mo, and back over $20/mo for that and Apple Music.

What solution do the Apple Music subscribers have for podcasts? Is it either streaming via bluetooth (and requiring another app to download), or paying over $20/mo?

I don't have a Spotify subscription and have been using the free version exclusively, and primarily to listen to podcasts. I've found it to be decent enough as a podcast app. I don't find myself missing paid features because they are not as frustrating or intrusive with podcasts. Skipping tracks doesn't matter as much, podcasts are not interrupted with ads, etc.

When you use Spotify primarily for podcasts, they take over your home screen and recommendations (it can do useful things like show you the newest episode of subscribed podcasts, etc), and Spotify's podcast recommendations are better than their music.

My plan is to use Apple Music for music and free Spotify as my podcast app.

The big issue for me is that podcasts *do have ads* usually baked into the podcast episodes themselves. The main reason I want Apple Podcasts support is because I'm a paid subscriber to some that I listen to regularly and get no ads on all their content. The only way to listen to those in my R1S is to play over Bluetooth, annoyingly.

True. I don't pay to subscribe to podcasts so I get ads in the Apple app, too. FWIW, the "skip 30 seconds" feature using the right button on the left side of the steering wheel makes it relatively painless, though. Unlike the interstitial ads between songs, the producer-added ads in a podcast are skippable.

I'm trying the new Audible app for podcast use. Already seems better than Spotify but that's a very very low bar ?

I use Overcast because it has great features compared to the Apple app. I just run it from the phone mounted in the dash, which is actually faster and less distracting than the big display.

I just use the Apple podcast app on my phone via Bluetooth, works fine. I was using Apple Music the same way. Native on the Rivian sounds better but I lost the ability to search via Siri, which is annoying. I hope Rivian comes up with a voice search that works with the Apple Music app.

I have tried to use Spotify a few times over the years and just can't get into it. I forget what view me about it, maybe the easy it saves podcasts and music playlists. I used to use Google podcasts and when it went away I switched to podcast addict and really love it for all my podcasts.

We use Amazon music for music streaming in the car and home. I'm not sure why I don't do podcasts on there, maybe again the interface for podcasts. I think I like the ability to mark them as played, organize them, and have them download automatically and maybe that isn't an option?

I'm missing out on a few podcasts because they are exclusive to Spotify, but I don't like those enough to chase them.

I just use the Bluetooth to stream podcast addict from my phone and it works well in the rivian, parts the artwork etc

I use audible built in app for podcasts in the Rivian - set up in audible app on my phone, then they show up in the car (there may be another way to do it?)

if I think to put a few podcasts in there ahead of time, really easy to use in the car.

While I initially used Spotify (free) for podcasts, I have since switched back to streaming podcasts via bluetooth from my phone, simply for the benefit of syncing playlists and starting where I left off if I decide to listen with headphones. Otherwise I'd have to scrub through to where I thought I stopped and the next up play list would always be out of sync. I too long for an Apple Podcast app integration (which should sync with the app on my phone) but have low expectations for this development.

I think it would be easy to implement… I vaguely recall Apple Podcasts following Apple Music integration after about a year in the Tesla ecosystem. Fingers crossed it’s coming! I’m a brand-new R1T owner… does Rivian post a roadmap somewhere for these sort of updates?
