A thought: can’t have remotely activated heating/cooling controlled by an app if you don’t have an app ready to go at launch

As another Tesla owner excited to add a Rivian to the lineup, I can also say that the cabin pre-heat / pre-cool and option to keep climate on while shopping are some of my favorite features of the Tesla. Hope Rivian comes out with similar before too long if not at launch.

Just got off a chat with Rivian. I own a Tesla Model 3P. One of my favorite features of the model is having the ability to either Pre-heat or Pre-cool the car remotely. Living in SoCal, we get hot in the summertime. By going on my Tesla app, I can pre-cool the car before I leave my office. I use it every single day its over 90 degrees. I get to sit into a fully cooled car and drive. One of the things I hate about my Tesla is the lack of ventilated seats. I love that about the R1S. I just found out that. Rivian, at this point in time, does NOT have the "pre" function as part of the software suite. Big bummer. I'm posting this on the forum in hopes of reaching those who view it and creating a buzz that Rivian will hopefully see and as a result, write a program that allows Rivian owners to Pre condition our trucks and SUV's. If any one of those who read this have a way for this to gain traction and get it to Rivian, I'd love to be. a part of the process.
thank you

tom
How can this possibly be missing? My ICE cars have had remote start for this reason for about 8 years now. The straws are piling up on the camel’s back…

Agree. It's hard to say what features exist for sure outside of Rivian sharing them directly. Other than someone getting a hold of the app when it does launch and dissecting the code.

1. should we have a third person ask and see if we can get a "yes"? It could be like a board game and see if we can collect all the possible answers!

2. I wonder how many people have asked for dog mode. I know I asked for and suggested it as a feature months ago now.

edit: @bowhunter beat me to it. We've collected them all! Yahtzee or something.
1. Do we just accept the answer we want to hear? Best 2 out of 3? Or just admit that Rivian isn't going to give (m)any definitive answers until the product ships? I long ago resigned myself to the latter and have given up asking Rivian questions about features. At this stage of product development, it seems futile to keep asking questions when there are never any definitive and consistent answers.

2. We made a case for dog mode directly to RJ when we met him at Mill Valley.

This will be my first EV, so can someone tell me whats the difference between a Tesla in dog mode vs leaving your car running and looking the doors?

No need to dissect any code. The feature is either accessible in the app, or it isn't.

The center screen displays a graphic and information to warn lookie-loos that your dog is fine.

I guess that makes sense, evs don't make a sound.
I usually leave my Forester running and noone has said anything, but the engine running is a giveaway.
I guess if Rivian doesn't have a dog mode when first released, I'll just carry some sticky notes in my car and put them on the screen.

There’s no concept in an EV of “leaving it running”. Unless they implement something akin to Tesla’s “dog mode”, your HVAC will turn off when you leave the car.

Oh, we definitely don't assume anything. My point was just to have fun with it since they clearly didn't know.

I mean even my Bolt EV had the ability to turn on heating/cooling remotely. That's kinda like table stakes features at this point.

Huge difference:

1. A car engine running goes through fuel pretty quick; ie: costly.
2. Added pollution.
3. Running car is easier to steal.
4. Running car is a larger target.
5. Carbon monoxide poisoning risk.
6. Wear and tear on many internal combustion engine systems.
7. Running car is less reliable to keep the inside pets cool.
8. Idling car is literally illegal in more and more places.
9. Most petrol cars do not have remote interior temperature monitoring capabilities like most electric cars have. Riskier for pets.
