Half the time I'm not listening to anything when I'm driving. If my daughter is in the car she is listening to Disney princess music. Wondering if it would be worth it to spend the extra money or just keep the base system in gen 2.

more than the content I think it’s a matter of if you’re someone that gets bothered by lower quality audio components and quality. E.g - do you care if the sound gets distorted at higher volume, or if the sound gets muddled due to hardware and software limitations in lowest audio systems. If the answer is no, it sounds like base level audio is more than sufficient.

Typically OEM systems are mid at best, but the premium will be much better than the standard

600 watts and 10 speakers should be sufficient if you aren't an audiophile. I have gotten used to the satellite speakers along the roof and the overall loudness of the system with the Meridian. I'd like to hear the base system though sometime for comparison.

Based on your use case....seems base would be just fine.

600 watts and 10 speakers ...
Where did you see those stats?
I was clicking through the R1S gen2 yesterday and it says the same 960 watts, but 12 speakers instead of 19 on a 16 channel amp

On website today…this is on the R1T page. Not sure about R1S. Edit: Same wattage but 12 speakers for R1S Base system.

Yep, I see 600 W now.

Looking at the difference in the speakers, it looks like if you don't use the special immersive sound, then only thing you'll be missing is the bass. I guess they could change the drivers. I wonder if they still have the wiring to there to add in a better aftermarket.

Reviving this thread to ask if there is any news regarding the new sound systems in Gen 2 vehicles. Is there?

Has anyone organized a group of 30 audiophiles to listen to each system in a blindfolded back-to-back test in which each audiophile independently rated the system on a scale of 1 to 10 and then the results were averaged?

Okay, well, has anyone had a chance to listen to either the new base or the new premium audio systems in the new R1S? Thoughts?

I have an R1S on order with the base system (because I couldn't find premium audio with the selections my wife wanted)--I'm wondering if I should be scrambling to see if I can change to a vehicle with the premium audio.....

But I want it NOW. But I want a good stereo. But I want it NOW. But I want a good stereo....

Just out of curiosity, but I got the R1T Quad last year and it was one of the first to have the Rivian Audio after they discontinued the use of Meridian. Is that equivalent to the current 'premium' audio that Rivian offers now, or is it the standard?

If you want a good stereo you should try to find one with the premium audio. It does appear to be somewhat different that Rivian elevation audio after they nixed the meridian system. All I can say is that the elevation audio is pretty awful so I wouldn’t expect them to achieve much with the base system.

Hopefully they have improved it somewhat but I believe the Meridian is closer to the new premium than to the standard. The Meridian has more speakers than the new premium, I think. Also, the Meridian and new Premium will have Dolby Atmos available, the new Standard won’t.

Ok - but the Rivian Elevation (now discontinued) does also have Dolby Atmos, correct?
