I just got a call from Rivian to schedule an appt to replace the front half-shaft. I don't recall seeing anything about a recall or anything (and have gotten maybe 3-5 mailings about headlight modules and 2025.18.30 highway assist). Is this a known thing? 2025 Gen2 Tri.

Just got my rear passenger side half shaft replaced at 5500 miles for my dune edition. Tech found that it was torn and it was leaking grease all over the wheel well. They suspect it might have been a manufacturing defect. Lead tech did mention that he noticed more of these recently, so maybe a bad batch of half shaft?

I just had my 2025 Tri Max in for unrelated service and noticed a line item for replacing the front half-shafts with updated parts. The invoice states:

Concern:

- Perform FSAM-1717

Cause:

- fsam-1717, replaced both left and right side front half shafts with updated parts

Correction/Remedy:

- Replace front halfshafts

I am not fully aware of Rivian service codes, but Google tells me that “FSAM-1717” does seem to be some kind of recall or service campaign.

Once a month I use NHTSA Safercar app to see if any new recalls or FSAM were issued for my VIN. This normally will let you know what may apply for your vehicle.

Yes, there’s a recall on certain vehicles and Rivian appears to be proactively replacing them. I had R1T in for a new PTC and they said while it’s here they’ll replace the half shafts. My trick is ALOT quieter now.

My 2023 Gen 1 lets me know when its shafts need to be replaced with a tic toc sound. An amazing feature on my R1S. No need for them to send out any notification.

Ah, my truck's super quiet generally, only wind noise and AC. I assume you heard a click/clack from the shafts?

I heard rattling up front, not the normal clicking. I always thought it was the air suspension.

Replacement of the front half shafts was added at the last moment to a scheduled recall on the front lights and turn signals. Monitoring this site, I knew there was some issues and when I questioned the tech when I dropped off the vehicle, they said it was a proactive replacment.

When I went to pick up the vehicle, the tech said that the front shafts were "out of stock". Now this was all too fishy since they added the change at the last minute. I have not had issues with the front half shafts (no noises) and they have been inspected twice (at tire rotation and now with the recall). I am fine with not replacing the half shafts until needed and am I now diligent in listening for the clicks. I just wish that the SC would have been straight with me and said the half shafts looked fine.
