Is said by whom? Random people on the internet or someone who actually has real information on Rivian's plans? Rivian has only ever said the transition would happen in 2025. Not for Model Year 2025, but in 2025.

Since my wife and I have kept most cars for ~10 years, I would love to have the updates, especially the driver assist ones. That said, I love my Double Forest R1S and am really glad I have a now-discontinued interior that is my favorite of the interiors. Also, the R1S is bigger than we really need, so there's a decent chance I will switch to an R2 at some point before my normal 10-year ownership.

EDIT: Oh, and I got pre-increase pricing and had an 11-year old Q5 that was starting to have... issues... I could not have waited any longer for a new car. Certainly not another full year.

I am in a similar situation. Have needed my R1T for all of the 18 months I have owned it. I am looking forward to the R2 as R1S is too big for when my wife needs to downsize from an Expedition Max.

Tempted to upgrade for a 400 mi range plus all the improvements, but hard to justify giving up my pre-price increase gen1 quad. I really don't need the third row, so I think I'm just going to hold out for a top of the line R2 with native NACS.

I think for a lot of Gen1 folks, especially early adopters, waiting for R2 is the play. R2 is going to not only benefit from most of these improvements, but it will probably have additional improvements from another year + of development. Obviously not everything from R1 will make it in, but I think a lot of it will just with less features.

Gen1 R1S owners - show me your existing milky white roof glass tints, because I don't remember anyone asking for this "feature." Better UV protection or a retractable sun shade while maintaining a clear window, sure I'm 100% on board. I'd rather have a "no glass" option than hazy, frosted glass that turns spooge white at the touch of a button.

How does that new electro-chromatic roof window look compared to the normal, 3rd-row roof window? I've noticed that there aren't any pictures or videos that show them both together (inside views or overhead views).

I've had Artee (R1T) for a year exactly this month! I knew when I got him, like any other computer, he would be out-of-date at some point, as that's just technology and how tech works. Was I excited about the new features announced yesterday and the new possibility...sure. Are those features worth about $50k to update to when there's nothing wrong with Artee and he does everything and more than asked of him? Nope.

When the R2 or R3 some out, we may look at adding one to the stable. Until then, If something were to happen to Artee, I'd get another R1T, but for now, he and I will continue doing our thing and road tripping and adventuring as we want.

Yep, unless you need the R1S's size and 3rd row, it's most like going to be better waiting for the R2 instead of upgrading now. The R2 could easily end up benefiting from even better chips -- either faster or lower power or both -- updated sensors, better battery cells, overall better efficiency, maybe 800V charging -- although I won't hold my breath -- or other small updates.

It will obviously not be as feature rich as an R1, but I'll bet the trim levels will line up reasonably well for comfort and materials. If Rivian's smart they'll have similar Explore, Adventure/Premium, and Ascent trim across all models even if the feature set isn't exactly the same between R1 Explore and R2 Explore. That would be similar to the way other brands tend to handle it (e.g. Audi's Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige)

Hello! In just a few hours I hope to soon be a proud new Gen 1 owner! And I would be lying if on the eve of my delivery yesterday I didn’t have doubts about moving forward after the Gen 2 reveal. But the Gen 1 is still a great truck with all the capability I need for the life of the lease - and maybe longer! I am moving over from a Tesla Model Y, and I still feel the Gen 1 will be a big improvement towing our teardrop trailer with more range and better utility. And the deal I got is incredible - a performance dual motor with max pack that would set me back a heck of a lot more in a 2025 with only a 10 mile improvement in range!

Having the better cameras and extra compute would be nice but most of that compute power benefits autonomous driving - which I am happy to give up for a while! I purchased Tesla’s full self driving when it was lower cost, yet I was tired of being a FSD crash test dummy! For now I’m still getting back radar / ultrasonic sensors that were “removed” from my Tesla. And the existing compute in the Gen 1 will still be good enough to give me plenty of upgrades to look forward to like the new UI and Apple Music .

So thanks for letting this Rivian newbie share my thoughts on sticking with my Gen 1 delivery. I look forward to being a part of the Rivian community - see you all on the road!

Assuming what they showed in the reveal correlates to the Ascent trim on the R2, and assuming a price point of high 50s-low 60s for a DM Ascent R2, I think that will be a much better value than a stripped down R1S for $15-20k more.

How would you know that till someone has a R1 Refresh in their driveway?

"Lowest vampire drain"? My i3 loses about 1-2miles over a week's time... no way Rivian is going to come close to that figure. My Bolt also lost maybe 1-2 miles per week as well.

This is what Rivian claims, not me. Their engineers said it was a major problem for gen 1 due to charging the 12v.

So they built a subsystem that can now charge the 12v without waking the car.

Rivian claims it has the lowest vampire drain in the industry now. Their words, not mine.

"Claim" is the operative word... let's see what Refresh owners actually experience.

This is not directed at you @cwang089:
"Their engineers said it was a major problem for gen 1 due to charging the 12v" ... then us Gen 1 owners should be able to connect a dual channel Battery Tender to keep the 12V batt(s) completely topped up when not using the vehicle for longer stretches which would prevent the vehicle from waking up just to charge the 12V batt(s).

on a pure kw burn rate I doubt it will beat smaller cars. It still needs to maintain the battery, a larger battery. But on a % basis, maybe. I mean they specifically designed the system to tackle vampire drain as it was absurdly high in the beginning. Also having UWB keys will help with proximity waking the car as is in my case where my home office is right next to my garage.
