That said, I hope gen 2 knocks it out of the park and I'm glad there are lots of positive changes. I bought my R1 because it was well worth the price to me for the vehicle I got, and that will still be true for a long time.

I have been extremely happy with my first gen R1T. Some of the refresh items certainly tickle my desire to be on the leading edge but after a lot of math and other ruminating I just committed to keeping my truck longer. Have a planned out build to help make off-roading and camping easier with ruffracks and also purchased an extended warranty to help worry less about expensive repairs down the line.

I paid 75k and my trade in is valued at 75k. I considered moving to a dual motor to maintain range and maybe gain efficiency but I’ll save the 15-20k for another day.

I am also a proud Gen 1 owner!

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is the DECREASE in range with certain configurations.

My gen 1 DM Large with Off Road package gets +305 miles of range. That same configuration with a gen 2 (large pack = 109 KwH) gets 280 miles of range, for the same price as mine cost.

Couple of things.

NACS is said to be coming as soon as end of this year. If you look at the new CCS port it looks like it is removable unlike before. I suspect it’s just a matter of changing out that part when suppliers and Rivian is ready. So perhaps GEn 2 can retrofit or continue to use an adapter.

Wassym responded on reddit that gen 1 would get blindspot although with worse cameras. He also said that gen 1 would get some of the interior light switch capability but limited. I’m not sure why it is limited but potentially there is a hardware difference.

I agree I use the funk all the time and the Rivian site says 9.9 cubic feet and the old one was 11.1 cubic feet from what I found online. I typically put in a 14 cubic foot tote in mine with room to spare so I know the dimensions aren't measuring the full space.

I can't tell from the pictures but I hope the frunk didn't shrink too much.

Isn't this where the heat pump will be placed? For colder days, that will be very helpful. So, I'd give up some frunk for better performance in the invierno(winter).

Is said by whom? Random people on the internet or someone who actually has real information on Rivian's plans? Rivian has only ever said the transition would happen in 2025. Not for Model Year 2025, but in 2025.

Since my wife and I have kept most cars for ~10 years, I would love to have the updates, especially the driver assist ones. That said, I love my Double Forest R1S and am really glad I have a now-discontinued interior that is my favorite of the interiors. Also, the R1S is bigger than we really need, so there's a decent chance I will switch to an R2 at some point before my normal 10-year ownership.

EDIT: Oh, and I got pre-increase pricing and had an 11-year old Q5 that was starting to have... issues... I could not have waited any longer for a new car. Certainly not another full year.

Kyle from Out of Spec if you watch the video. He says he believes NACS is coming end of this year. He spent a lot of time with Rivian

He's certainly not a random guy on the internet.

I also wouldn't recommend anybody make large financial decisions like when they buy a car, based on his speculation no matter how much it's based on good information at the time he's speculating.

If they do switch that soon, I really hope they're able to get a supply of CCS->J3400 adapters that aren't coming from Tesla.

yes, if the plan is to release by end of this year, I would hope they had it planned ahead that it would be a simple swap out of refresh.

If you look at the new port it looks like you can remove the CCS port. I'm ordering a Gen 2 as I have a voucher and hope I can retrofit out the port later.

Yes, I wish I had 1’ less of wiring and a smaller more efficient battery pack and a dimming roof. But I have enjoyed a car for $20k less than current retail and I have slightly more usable space in the frunk and soon to be extinct 21” rims.
My only regret is not getting launch green with forest interior as they will be extinct soon enough.
Looking at the refresh, I think it probably moves the needle for people who may have been on the fence about a Rivian, especially an R1S if they didn't like the ride of the G1 or felt like it didn't reach the level of refinement for a $90k SUV and some people who held out for the refresh probably feel vindicated. I know that if I had a discount voucher from a pre-March R1S reservation that I'd held on to, I'd be psyched about getting a Gen2 at a steep discount.

That said, there is no way that I can complain about the deal I got with a 2022 R1T QM. Very little that I've seen would compel me to upgrade, especially given the economics of giving up an OG R1T for much less performance at a similar price point. If anyone has a legitimate gripe, I suppose those who didn't get early adopter pricing and got a 2024 could maybe have some sour grapes, but even then they will get a lot of the benefits of the new UI etc.

Proud G1 owner here.

Needed a new vehicle as my 18 year old SUV was fading. Waited 2 1/2 years. Timing was right, price was right.

I am excited for Rivian to dial it in and hopefully be around for a very long time. Would love to see my IPO purchase make some returns......... eventually.

Rivian please don't forget your G1's, I still look forward to this vehicle getting better and better with the OTA upgrades, even hardware upgrades if possible. I plan to drive this vehicle for a very long time.
