The OG frunks are definitely a plus! I love the subfloor....keep alot stuff under that. Not sure any of the updates are worth having a smaller frunk.
That said, I hope gen 2 knocks it out of the park and I'm glad there are lots of positive changes. I bought my R1 because it was well worth the price to me for the vehicle I got, and that will still be true for a long time. Not sure any of the updates are worth having a smaller frunk.
I agree I use the funk all the time and the Rivian site says 9.9 cubic feet and the old one was 11.1 cubic feet from what I found online. I typically put in a 14 cubic foot tote in mine with room to spare so I know the dimensions aren't measuring the full space. Not sure any of the updates are worth having a smaller frunk.
Isn't this where the heat pump will be placed? For colder days, that will be very helpful. So, I'd give up some frunk for better performance in the invierno(winter). Not sure any of the updates are worth having a smaller frunk.
Is said by whom? Random people on the internet or someone who actually has real information on Rivian's plans? Rivian has only ever said the transition would happen in 2025. Not for Model Year 2025, but in 2025.NACS is said to be coming as soon as end of this year. If you look at the new CCS port it looks like it is removable unlike before. I suspect it’s just a matter of changing out that part when suppliers and Rivian is ready. So perhaps GEn 2 can retrofit or continue to use an adapter.
Kyle from Out of Spec if you watch the video. He says he believes NACS is coming end of this year. He spent a lot of time with RivianIs said by whom? Since my wife and I have kept most cars for ~10 years, I would love to have the updates, especially the driver assist ones. That said, I love my Double Forest R1S and am really glad I have a now-discontinued interior that is my favorite of the interiors. Also, the R1S is bigger than we really need, so there's a decent chance I will switch to an R2 at some point before my normal 10-year ownership.

Looking at the refresh, I think it probably moves the needle for people who may have been on the fence about a Rivian, especially an R1S if they didn't like the ride of the G1 or felt like it didn't reach the level of refinement for a $90k SUV and some people who held out for the refresh probably feel vindicated. I know that if I had a discount voucher from a pre-March R1S reservation that I'd held on to, I'd be psyched about getting a Gen2 at a steep discount.Yes, I wish I had 1’ less of wiring and a smaller more efficient battery pack and a dimming roof. But I have enjoyed a car for $20k less than current retail and I have slightly more usable space in the frunk and soon to be extinct 21” rims.
My only regret is not getting launch green with forest interior as they will be extinct soon enough.
