The main reason I want sport mode is for the handling difference, not the power. But, I'm not sure how much better that is, because I haven't done a side by side comparison. I'm going to try it on the quad loaner that I have to see if there's much difference there.

So an earnest question from someone who left PDM on the table because of the 2024 incentives, does the performance boost do...anything at all outside sport/low/lowest?

From what I gather the answer is no, and that's not exactly going to spur many of us to spend $5k for it as an after the fact upgrade. I tend to avoid low as it is because of ride quality.
FWIW, I left behind PDM as well. I asked my guide the exact same thing. I was told that you do get more kick at all different ride heights, but the greatest is a the lowest. The PDM's that I test drove in sport, really handled well and accelerated like I would expect an EV to do so. Not particularly impressed with the DM Max Non Performance. Likely will buy the Performance upgrade when they offer it, despite having to switch to sport mode every single time (if not true, please let me know for those who have it)..

I don't think the regular DM has the lowest setting or sand mode. If it's the same above 45mph then no benefit in passing situations.

For Non Performance DM, this is what I noticed when driving with stability "ON". It basically uses the front motor whenever speed go past 20 or 25 mph. When Stability is "OFF" or "REDUCED" it uses both motors (more on the rear). So the non performance DM is essentially Single motor except when launching past 20 mph.

I would like to understand the STABILITY control better if anyone here understand what it does. When you turn it to "reduced" the light will say "OFF" . Is it reduced or off? Is it different for Quad, Performance and non Performance DM?

As far as efficiency concerns, I would assumed it will be less efficient when you put stability to Reduced or off.

I would love to see AP on performance dual vs AP on Standard Dual... Curious to know if they really are the same when not in sport mode
Same here. I can't imagine the standard truck being any slower than the PDM in AP mode.

Maybe they mean "all different ride heights available in sport mode" but that's only low and lowest. There's no way to get sport-like power in standard ride height which is a shame.

I would like to know where people are driving (one of the quickest vehicles around) that they feel like they need to switch to sport mode to effect a lane pass….

Most people have their locations listed in their profile so I would start there.

Seems we have some pretty adamant while diverging opinions even with some data on what the P of PDM actually does and when it does it. Maybe if/when it's offered as an upgrade Rivian might be drawn into explaining the benefits more precisely. That said you'd think they'd be more forthcoming on this already as a $5K option at purchase. They do state the 2 extra drive modes and the increased HP and Torque but not that this extra power is restricted to certain circumstances and choices which for many might be choices they wouldn't otherwise choose to make or find that their circumstances when the extra power would be welcome don't allow it.

I'm wondering if they will offer monthly subscription for the performance upgrade since many of us have a lease.

I bought mine but would be interested in the same idea for something like a free trial. I presume having set up the ability to upgrade they'd just be flicking a switch on/off by VIN so why not? Unless of course the difference isn't that much...

Tesla offered a FREE trial of FSD to customers not too long ago. I'm sure Rivian can do the same.

It did it again last month, my wife's FSD expires today. She used heavily this last month as she had surgery and was good for her to ride hands free for longer times :)

Now she feels she might pay for it every now and then when she has too much on her plate. Software free trials work!!
