The max pack for the R1T is exactly $10k over the large pack, so I’m not sure what the question is. If I didn’t have to wait, I’d have configured it on my R1T already. So here's a question for you guys, pre-March reservation holder or not.
If this alleged max pack is an extra $10K, would you buy it? What is it worth to you for an alleged additional 100 miles?
It's worth quite a bit actually. There is a common fallacy that the stated ~300 mile range is all you will ever need.So here's a question for you guys, pre-March reservation holder or not.

100%. Since they never offered it, it won’t have a legacy price. My random ass guess is we won’t see a longer range R1S until we see Rivian produced motors in quad motor as well, producing close to 1000 hp total.I'm going to bet that the R1S Max pack configuration will only be available with the new pricing. They're already losing money on every vehicle even with the new pricing. It makes close to zero sense to voluntarily take a $20k wash on a profit if it wasn't an option when pricing was locked in pre-march pre-order holders.
So if it cost $30k more would I buy it? No, not with the quad motor. I'd probably opt to downgrade to dual at that point and hope that I'd be still paying sub 100k.
While I fully expect this, I don't think it has to be guaranteed. The Max Pack was $10k before and after the pricing debacle. It never changed. On top of that, I've done the math, and they are making more money per kWh going from large->max than they do going from small->large with the new pricing. So it seems like the max pack already has a decent enough profit built in.I'm going to bet that the R1S Max pack configuration will only be available with the new pricing. Oh ya and I forgot to mention, charging from 80-100% to get that full 275 mile range with the 20" AT tires typically only means from leaving your house or overnight stay to the FIRST charger. Not too many people are going to want to spend an EXTRA 45 minutes over what they've already spent charging to get to 80%, going from 80 to 100%. At least routinely.Honestly, I'm a bit miffed about the Max pack option, I would be WAY up the line in the R1S reservation list if they had just said no max pack. I waited a long time for the option to show before making my reservation.
If they don't do a Max pack, I'll figure out how to deal with 316m range, if they do, I'll weigh "waiting" for it, again....
That being said, I map out trips now and I know that extra 100 miles would change a LOT of trips for me by eliminating charge stops. PNW has a lot of remote stuff currently with limited if any charge options, and I'd like to arrive at camp with enough usable power to take advantage of things like the 110v power plugs.
In case it helps you feel better... I've covered the PacNW pretty thoroughly in my 2018 Model 3 LR RWD (~310 miles of quote range) and it's pretty doable with short or no stops most of the time. The NW corner of the Olympic Peninsula and the Winthrop/Thorp areas are probably the hairiest.Honestly, I'm a bit miffed about the Max pack option, I would be WAY up the line in the R1S reservation list if they had just said no max pack. And let us not forget that this is when it is new. Even very well managed battery system will lose 7% - 10% of capacity in the first five years and then level off.Oh ya and I forgot to mention, charging from 80-100% to get that full 275 mile range with the 20" AT tires typically only means from leaving your house or overnight stay to the FIRST charger. Remove the top 20% and bottom 5% of charging, leaves you with 206 miles of range, in ideal conditions, with AT tires on the large pack. This is why a Max pack in the R1S is so appealing.
