I live in Houston so it gets very hot here in the summer. I park my car in an attached garage but during the hottest parts of the day it’s still fairly hot in the garage. I’ve noticed that while I am charging the R1T during the day the internal fans are running (I sssume to cool the battery pack) and the vehicle puts out a lot of heat. Do others have this issue? I am going to start scheduling my charging at night when it’s cooler. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Garages are obligated by code to have venting to the outside. Something you might consider improving upon as well. Just don't compromise any firewall to the house.

I live in San Antonio which means I experience the same type of heat. I added a vent fan to the garage to pull more heat out and typically charge around 1:30 to 6:30 AM in the summer.

Thanks. So you were experiencing the same thing?

Yes. The fans come on any time the battery needs to be cooled. I have experienced the same thing on hot days in a sunny parking lot with 7.2kw chargimg also. Its one of the features that protects the battery back.

To be as green as you can be though (if that’s a concern), in Texas you actually want to charge during the day as wind, solar, nuclear, and battery storage make up nearly 60% of energy production/use. Just fyi…no judgement. ?

It may be greener but I'm on a TOU plan that heavily incentivizes me to charge overnight as that is when demand is lowest.

That is interesting, in SoCal the TOU rates are cheapest from 8am to 4 pm. My guess is to provide lower compensation for the excess solar homes are producing. 9pm to 8am is cheap but not as cheap as the day rate.

I have solar with monthly net metering. I also get a rebate each month that I don't use my L2 charger between 4 PM and 9 PM. So I may not be using all of my electrons but I am offsetting my EV use.

This is because CA has developed sooo much renewable energy (wind, water and solar, plus batteries) that they actually produce more than the demand, especially during the middle of the day, when the sun is out. Pretty incredible! This is not an every day situation, but I guess it’s getting there. Hence, the unintuitive TOU rate structure.

I did notice June we changed to Summer rates (June-September) for SCE so the day and night rates are the same 37 cents a kWh.

Fortunately I have enough solar output to cover the house and R1S usage.

Blame that on A/C usage during the summer months.

Yes, the heat… I'm in Tuscon and have solar with six Enphase batteries in the double garage. Now, with the R1S, I've installed a two-ton mini-split, which is much better.
