Am I wrong to think with the high number of reservations placed in relation to the production numbers ramping up, my chances of ever getting a R2 Launch edition are slim/none since I just put down my $100 on 6/12/26?

No one knows.

The language on the home page is a bit ambiguous:

"Reserve yours now to get Launch
Package for a limited time. Visit us
to see R2 in person."

Certainly seems to imply that if you reserve now you can get a launch edition. I think that's unlikely but it's not clear cut.

I don't think even Rivian knows how many they will make, but on context clues, you could still get a launch edition IMO.

Based on my impressions from talking to people and at showrooms, most folks are waiting for the cheaper models. I don't blame them, either, as not everyone is really looking for 650hp and at this price point, sticking to a budget is important. I'd stay cautiously optimistic for a LE.

If it doesn't work out, then you might as well just wait for the lidar vehicles with the new chips to come out and save some money and go with the premium trim. If I had the patience, this would be my route.

You have about as much chance as anyone. Its clear now Rivian is selecting reservations not just based on date but location and some other factors they are not sharing.

They state by the end of this month all reservation holders will be given a rough timeline as to when one can expect to be able to place their order. There is a bit of a lottery involved so some late reservation holders will get a lucky early spot along with many other factors.

I like optimism and hope but I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. I'm sure I would be perfectly fine with any of the premium offers but besides the horse power, I'm wanting the tow package, connect+ for life, etc. that is included in the LE but would be an added expense with the regular premium models. I had a deposit early on with Tesla for a Tri-Motor Cybertruck but when the price went way up and the range went way down, I got my $100 back and decided I didn't need a truck after all.

Highly unlikely as your reservation is over two years later than the first reservations. There is a chance since c.10% of orders are from none day 1 reservation holders. Launch is for this year at most and they have stated 2028 model year in early 2027 with Lidar and RAP1 which will not be the launch edition.

Agreed, I also believe they are taking into consideration of the "favorites" if you have saved some build preferences on their page under your account. I also do believe leases about to expire are getting some level of priority in the line so as not to lose a potential customer that could go elsewhere up their lease expiring.

You'll also start to see pre-owned ones hit the market, probably in the next 6-12 months (if not sooner). That was how I got my first R1T. The autonomy+ should (unless Rivian changed this policy) stay with the vehicle.

Really? You thinking people are selling for a profit? I heard WI residents will take delivery in IL, Potentially Buffalo Grove, IL SC.

Not saying they're selling for a profit, just that some people who will take delivery may realize it's not the vehicle for them or life/circumstances change, etc.
When I bought my new '26 R1T I picked it up in Buffalo Grove IL, yes. Not sure if I could have picked it up in Menomonee Falls, WI or not as I never asked and Buffalo Grove is closer to me anyway (i live on the IL/WI border).

Ahh, IC. Good point. Yeah there are dealer(Stealer)ship laws in WI that doesn't allow Rivian to deliver to WI last I heard and discussed with a the Menomonee Falls SC Mngr. Congrats on the 2026 R1t by the way! Super jealous!

R2 preorder
No one really knows, however Rivian sent out an email on launch day to non preorders that said: “There’s still time to reserve your R2 and get Launch Package for a limited time.”
So maybe? It’s possible that’s based on a calculation for conversion rate, or it’s possible they will continue selling launch editions until everyone who preordered by a certain date has the opportunity to buy one.

My best guess is around end of year Rivian starts taking orders for LIDAR/RAP1 version, and Premium trim, and people stop ordering launch editions at that point, but Rivian leaves it as an option for a short period of time for anyone to buy.

Funny you mention LIDAR/RAP1 version...I asked the Rivian Assistant about that if I was able allowed to put in an order and it said it would be an option to select when ordering that would then drive future deliver of. Surprised Rivian is not asking that as a question in the app like they did on if you were interested in a launch edition. I assume they don't want to ask as a suggestion that may cause people to not want the launch edition initially. I also heard in one of the recent review vids that the Non-Launch Edition Performance (assume that is when LIDAR/RAP1 is available) will start in the $55k range. Not sure if that will hold by then, but that is such a small bump from Premium that why wouldn't you go Performance for another $2k if so?
