Thanks for all the responses I’m going to setup a Mok scenario where I am parked and have my wife park her car 3 feet behind mine and test to see how it takes for the sensors to kick in
In regards to sensors I have attached a photo of my actual damaged number and wanted to know are those two sensors considered parking sensors? I’m looking on eBay and I see some rear bumper sensors and want to know if they are the correct ones

Your truck should've logged the videos as an Incident, please post the videos from all angles of you have them.

If you don't have the original Incident videos, please please please turn it on BEFORE you test this, and post those videos. I'll give you $5

Yeah I think you need to take a few stress management or self defense classes or something. Doing what you did is really careless and the lack of a beep is the least of the problems here. I know I harp on people for lecturing others in here but this one is different. You can't do what you did again, you can kill someone doing that.

You need to look behind you, and you even have a couple cameras back there to do so along with a rear view mirror. Next time it could be family that's behind your truck.
You are 100% correct and yes I was careless
though in that moment I felt threatened by the homeless guy right up against my car and reacted accordingly. I would NEVER backup any car without first double checking in all directions before moving. I have not been involved in any automobile accident in over 30 years

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the mock scenario…. Blame is being put on the sensors but like others have said, there’s a ginormous backup camera feed..

I see you mentioned this about the homeless guy a few times. Just wanted to say I get this. They are very aggressive in my area, even knocking on your window when you're using an ATM machine. I actually called the cops on them once for that, 99% sure panhandling in a bank ATM line is illegal.

Although that doesn't beat the time a lady was knocking on my window and telling he she was sick, and I responded that I was dying (I mean technically, aren't we all?) - and she said she'd pray for me, LOL.

But yeah. Gtfo my property. Am a lot less likely to want to help anyone if they harass me. ?

So I have only had my R1T for a few weeks now and unfortunately today I got into a small "fender" bender in a parking lot.
Here is what happened. I got into the truck, pushed the break in and put the car into reverse. I did not here or notice any warning from the car so I the proceeded to pull out of the parking space not realizing that there was another vehicle stopped right behind me. Yes the accident was my fault as I did not physically turn my head to make sure nothing was behind my. I was distracted by a homeless person who at the same time pulled up right next to me and was asking for money. I just wanted to get out of the situation.
Should the truck have given me any kind of warning that there was something right behind me? There was no audible noise or did I notice anything on the display. Yes the whole thing happened very quickly.
Im just trying to figure out if my R1T should have at least notified my via audible noise and or front dash red lines as I have seen almost every time I pull into a parking space. the car aways gives me both audible and visual cues that I am getting to close to an object.
Good thing what you hit wasn’t human.

It depends on when the incident happened...it saves for a week I believe. You can get a SSD drive and connect it to the USB-C posts in the center console and then turn it on and it will save to that device.

As far as the homeless person.....I get it, we have a lot of them here in Northern California. What I practice is "Situational Awareness".

1. When I get in my car (in public) I look around to make sure I am safe and no one is following me and/or waiting for me.
2. When I go to a restaurant I look for the exits before I sit down so in case of a situation, I know where to go. I always sit with my back against a wall and/or facing the patrons in the restaurant.
3. I always carry my bang bang device with me as well.

Next time someone comes up to you....10-second rule.....relax, count to 10, and then leave. Just need enough time to get your wits about you.

Glad you are ok and that it doesn't look like there is a lot of damage. to your Rivian.

Thanks for your response. I still don't quite understand what Rivian considers an Incident to be?
I guess ehat happened yesterday for whatever reason the car did not think it was an incident

In regards to the homeless guy, when I first entered the car he was not there he was on his broken down bicycle and just came up behind me and stopped right at my window, so by my own admission I panicked and just wanted to "get: out of there.

In terms of damage to my truck, the number facia is damaged, there is also a small dent on the rear back panel. Thats its not to bad, though you should have seen the damage I caused to the other car. Wow I was shocked how bad it was considering I was hardly moving when I made contact. It ask just happened so quickly.

Oh well I am now in search of a number from Rivian, I have looked on eBay and there are a bunch of the from salvage yards yet most of them all look pretty beat up, scratched etc,,

best thing is....no one got hurt.

As far as recording, it should be recording anything. When I park at work and I move my R1T after I charge, I park far enough away from other cars so I get no dents and when I walk up to the car (maybe 10 feet) it will start recording automatically. I can't remember if I set it to start recording it might have always been set. If you can set it to record, do it...and you can erase the video if you want or it will self-delete in about a week.

I am a father, and as such I wouldn't want my wife or kids ran over because someone didn't look and mashed the pedal in reverse.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but check in settings to make sure tow mode isn't enabled, it entirely disabled beeps and alerts about objects in the rear. For some reason my came with that setting enabled...

Hopefully they add in automatic rear breaking in future models - miss that from my GV70, saved me from backing into a wall a few times.
I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly don't want my vehicle braking for me. There's too much control now. Especially since my garage is tight. I park with 1-2 inches to spare.

As far as recording, it should be recording anything. That recording is different than the "dash cam". When it records events when parked, you don't need a separate hard drive connected. It only works when you're parked.

It is not the same as a dash cam.

It is also not the same as the "incident cam" that will record a little before/after it detects a hard brake/swerve/etc.

Backing up really slowly and hitting something probably didn't trigger the "incident cam". If it did, you'll see it in the little alerts area. To capture things like that for sure, you'll need to enable the dash cam and have a hard drive installed.
