I had a Kinect connected to my Xbox for a while (before they removed the functionality with the jump to the "Series" line), and it worked about 90% of the time. But it never felt right. Plus, it turns out that I don't miss it.

Fun fact...the voice actor for the computer in almost all of the Star Trek series/movies was the same actor who played Troi's mother. They had an episode early on where she was arguing w/ the computer...it was pretty funny.

She was also Nurse Chapel in the original series.

I completely forgot that she was Roddenberry's wife. I knew that at one point, but my brain can store only so much useless crap...

That last part is funny to me, as I don't think any of those samples have been used yet - unless it's been on Discovery, which I've not watched past the first two episodes way back when they premiered...

Yeah Discovery was bunk, and only had a couple good episodes, if that. The only good story it had was the short trek "Calypso". I wish they would get back to basics more in line TNG DS9 and even VGR. That said, Strange New Worlds has been a decent effort.

Back to the "Rivian Assistant", That was a very impressive demo this morning. And it's fully confirmed to come to all generations of Rivian vehicles.

This is one of the things that works well with Alexa today. Same as "turn on steering wheel warmer", or "turn on driver's heated seat".

But am definitely looking forward to the improvements.

It was - I'm not going to use 99.324% of the capabilities, but it looks good. Hopefully you can mute the voice for text messages, as my eyes are just fine for reading things, thank you very much.

This text integration looks substantially better than what I have in my 2018 Model 3. I understand now why it took so long, though a part of me wishes they did have a basic version years ago as filler. Glad it is coming to Gen 1's as well

My wife is always telling me to stop clicking the screens and changing things while I am driving. If the assistant can do it instead I will be happy. As long as my kids don’t yell something as soon as I click the button. I wonder if they will have the voice activation to the person. Cause my kids will say hey Rivian, do something stupid and then I will get upset

While I was very impressed with Rivian’s self driving tech and their goals, I, for one, can do without most of the AI Assistant stuff. I prefer to stay as far away from Google as I can. My experience with Google and their invasive, personal data mining has not been good. I am very uncomfortable with Rivian’s Google connection ever since the Google map update, where I was forced to agree to Google’s egregious privacy policy. I was held hostage to that policy to even make my basic Rivian GPS functions work. Hell my car didn’t even know where it was until I agreed to that privacy policy I would like to think Rivian is doing something to protect their customers’ privacy, but I seriously doubt it. As they tout their Google association and their gee whiz stuff, I can’t recall hearing anything about privacy issues. This Rivian lapse only reinforces my concern.

I love my R1T, but this Google partnership is THE one thing that leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. I don’t want a Google car. I get that a lot of people, in the name of perceived convenience, have thrown in the towel on privacy. That’s cool. To each, his/her own. I’m just not one of them

This is a solid question. I use that for 99% of the music in my vehicle. Hope they keep the existing apps / integrations, and build on top of that? Guess we'll see. (unless one of the celebrity YouTubers who's getting to test this update gets back to us, LOL).
