Any thoughts on when “refreshed” R1s will start showing up in the Shop? By June? And what configurations will we see available first? How much might pricing jump?
Rivian will likely resume production making refreshed configs for the shop. It's possible, of course, that the refreshed R1s will be almost unchanged in features and look.

I do think that Rivian would like to stimulate demand this summer, but they may not have the capacity to make significant feature changes.

I bet they'll do like they did with the Standard and Standard+ packs and just start putting the first ones into the R1 Shop, then later open it up for configurations. I'm also assuming they've already got a proof of concept line that's made some test vehicles already. So, I assume they should be able to start creating production vehicles very shortly after bringing everything back online.

So, my guess is that we could see them as early as May, unless they hold up until they get a larger stock pile. But I'm betting they want to sell vehicles as soon as they can.

I think they will likely produce shop & custom configurations concurrently. Why? Some prospective buyers are okay with waiting for a custom configuration to be built, while others are more interested in buying a vehicle as soon as possible (Rivian or not). It is in Rivian's best interest to ensure that both options are available so as to win the business of both buyers.

At least in Canada, the choice of configs they have in the shop is mind boggling. There are only 3 DM options - all of which have Underbody shield...an upgrade most don't care to have. Of all the configs they have only 3 DM options doesn't make very much sense (also 3 PDM options). They need more lower priced options available for folks. i get they're trying to make as much as possible off of each car, but people want options that aren't the AT upgrade or shield.

I like how everyone assumes each vehicle is in the shop. When the reality is, they build a dozen or so of identical vehicles and list just the one example.....

That's my point. I'm well aware not every car is in the shop. Let's call what they have in the shop the only "templates" they will build. What i'm trying to say is that they only have 3 DM templates of cars they're willing to build..across ALL colours, Wheel choices, and interiors. That's wild.

Just got this email. I still believe the line shutdown will result in a materially different refreshed R1 platform, which is why Rivian is changing pre-order holders to vouchers, because trims/options aren't going to line up anymore.

I am a Canadian and ordered my R1s in 2020. I upgraded to the max pack to allow me to drive from Alberta to B.C. In the summer. Rivian was to deliver my vehicle in March or April 2024. As a result of this change I no longer receive my vehicle and I am told that the voucher discount may run out prior to the factory being able to prodice my order once again. Rivian should have completed their custom order prior to shutting down to upgrade. I am one unhappy Rivian Customer.

I agree, but there were and will be max pack in the store. Rivian would like to sell you the most profitable options.

Currently I only see six total R1S' in the shop. Is that the same for everyone else?

In case it's not clear, this applies to everybody. I got the email too, as a recent depositor and configuration-locker. Now my config is gone, and apparently I can cancel and get a refund, and I'll see the new pricing in May. The shop has also been updated. Filters immediately change the list, year is added, and more options (2023, blue/red/yellow, forest edge) are not selectable. Even without filters, there seem to be far less vehicles in the shop, so they must have burned through alot of inventory. This all sounds to me like no new builds are starting, they'll just finish whats on the line now.
That's crazy they canceled yours. My configuration is still active and I have spoke to them about just holding off until after the shutdown to take delivery. They had no issues with me waiting.

Again, backup. They aren't losing $30k per car. Their total company expenses when divided into the quantity of cars produced, is $30k per vehicle. But an R1 doesn't have $110k of parts and gets sold for $80k.
Not my understanding. if Rivian was only loosing 30,000 per vehicle company wide their total yearly loss would be apx. 30,000 X 60,000= 1,800,000,000 that's 1.8 Billion per year. Rivian is loosing multiples of this.
To be profitable Rivian needs to have a positive cost delta > 30K per vehicle on R1 and take some austerity spending measures beyond cutting down on free snacks in the office break room.

Rivian's expenditures aren't only building vehicles. They are trying to expand to build the R2 line (in Georgia and now Illinois) and that costs billions of dollars. That is reflected in how much cash they are burning. So they aren't burning 1.8 billion per year (or more) on building vehicles.

Exactly. I was pointing this out in my response to assumption that Rivians losses were much less than $30K per vehicle in Q4 2023.

There is a very limited number of early preorder holders (mainly Canadians) that had Max pack preorders and waited and waited for this configuration and never had the chance to purchase one. This sucks for this limited group. Their are others who have changed their config's or declined the chance to purchase earlier and for that group I have less empathy. In a perfect world Rivian could reach out on an individual basis and offer special goodwill to allow use of vouchers on post refresh R1's. I would imagine this special goodwill offer would apply to ballpark of 100 total customers and would barely even show up on a quarterly report.

Best option is for Canada to join the U.S.A. and all this could have been avoided.
