RS1 making clicking sound while driving.

we went in a road trip from Scottsdale AZ to Huntington Beach Ca. and when we arrived the bell boy said that the car was making a clicking sound coming from the front end. Anyone have a clue what that could be.

no wipers not on and sound seems to be coming from front during movement almost like a suspension issue.

Are you in Auto height mode? If so, then depending on vehicle speed it'll change height as needed. Similarly, if you have easy exit mode on (or whatever it's called) then the vehicle will lower when you put it in park and raise again when you put it in drive and the suspension will make clicking noises while this is happening, especially when lowering.

My R1S makes clicking noises for the first 5 minutes of every drive as the suspension makes minor adjustments. It does more when I put it in park. It has since I bought it 15 months ago and I've just gotten used to it. Seems totally normal, I've never had an issue.

I am surprised there is no paint marker on those bolts...means the torque wasn't verified.

To the OP, the sound could be the air suspension changing the ride height?

So I'm typing this as I'm at the SC. Have an appointment for an alignment (vehicle is pulling to the right ever since it came back from my last SC appointment) and they added this line item FSAM-1507 (Tighten all hub to knuckle fasteners). A tech did a ride along with me and he noticed the vehicle pulling, but also a clicking and squeaking sound. The clicking sound (not air suspension adjusting) was noticeable going over bumps or turning the steering wheel past a certain point and going forward or reverse. The sound manifested in either direction the wheel was turned.

So yeah definitely something going on. Unfortunately all this will not be done today, so it will be another appointment.

could be issue with CV boot / half-shaft. one way to tell is to accelerate/decelerate between 10-20mph. if you consistently hear clicking it could be that. had mind replaced just last month with that.

on the other hand, a year ago i had similar clicking thought that sound was more pronounced when turning the steering wheel and going over bumps. it turned out some of the bolts on the front suspension were loose. they torqued it to spec and that clicking went away.

It could also just be a rock in the tire.

Did your issue was something like this :

The main concern is not the knocking sound but jerkiness when bouncing from acceleration to deceleration and back. Really become annoying. We're they be able to fix it ?

It’s hard to hear it but if it’s clicking while accelerating/decelerating it might be you CV. Mine was fixed by replacing the axle/boot. It’s rock solid again.
Check the CV and see if it’s leaking. Tell tale sign is green slime, might be black from dirt. Here’s a photo of mine.

The CV shafts seem to click when turning. I'll check loose parts though. Upright ball joint bolts on Toyota's tend to work loose so I'm sensitive on this stuff.

Thank you - in my case, I am hearing the knock only when I switch from regen to accel or wise versa. On the highway, the feeling is like there is some small delay between regen and acceleration. Or some kick back when I switch from accel to regen. The actual feeling is like the drive unit has some free movement.
Remind me old ICE car automatic transmission.
