Dark all the time for me. I imagine people may choose similar to how they may set their computer or phones.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Dark almost always for me ... except when I need to see certain roads, like fire roads. Then need to switch to light mode to see better.

IMO we need a "grey" mode which is a much softer Light mode for those of us who don't like screens blaring in our faces.

Not sure how it is possible to have it dark all the time.
Probably the first thing I tried to do was force dark mode, but if I back out of the garage during the middle of the day it will start in Dark and it is impossible to see anything on it outside until it switches to Light which is always delayed.
Maybe it's the matte screen protector we have?

I'm same as @mudito
I do wish they had a Night Shift mode like we have for us iPhone users. And/or Auto at night being even dimmer.

I am an auto guy. Dark mode on screens uses less power. Very helpful for phones but not sure it makes a noticeable impact in the R1.

My eyes are very sensitive to light….but I love being outside in the sun! Mostly wear sunglasses and do unfortunately have trouble reading small text sometimes. Dark is hard for me to see in daylight but at night dark mode is much easier on my eyes.

Auto...just wish it would switch as soon as I back out of dark garage into bright driveway and not wait till I put it in forward(or park).

Auto 95% of the time. As mentioned earlier, it's easier to see FSR's in light mode, and there are instances even in dark, rainy, Vancouver BC where dark mode isn't bright enough.

Dark mode 100% on every other screened device I have, phone, computer, this website.

I thought the same at first, then played with the auto brightness slider when I had it in dark mode. Set it very high while outside on a bright sunny day and then it auto dims to full dark at night. For basic commuting where I do not need the Nav it works well, navigating on a trip not so much. Maybe if they keep improving the Nav with more directions on the drivers display it will help some. Some sort of setting or slider to get a middle gray background or anything not full dark or full white would be great. The full white bright is just too much for me most of the time and we get over 300 sunny days here.

Tried to put it on dark all the time at first, but as others have noted it was too hard to use in daylight, so I switched back to auto.
