Phx service center just called me and delayed my scheduled service appt on Friday–that I had already been waiting 6 weeks for– out to mid-September. Uggh.
I have several small things, but the major issue is AC in Phoenix!

Clearly the service center wait times are a major issue and could give potential buyers reason to look elsewhere. RJ and supervisors need to have a "Come to Jesus" meeting with manufacturing/assembly at the factory. Quality of the vehicles needs to be much much better coming off the assembly line!
Yep ... stop building "spaces" and put up more service centers and pay for technician training if necessary. I still have 4 more weeks to go until my first appointment that I made over a month ago!

I wouldn't buy a vehicle from a company who couldn't service it for 4 months. Hope this doesn't get around. I'm a stock holder!

I fully agree with your assessment as to the current blue collar labor situation. All of the trades are short-handed.

When it comes to hiring EV techs, this is a relatively new thing and there are almost no qualified techs to hire. Rivian needs to consider taking on their own technician training to get the people that they need now and in the future.

Brian
They can train people all they want but the job itself is looked down upon. I came up through the trades and I cannot begin to tell you all the shit I took from white collar workers through the years until I transitioned to white collar myself. Until trades professionals are socially valued the same as white collar jobs and those people aren't seen as less than there will only be so many people willing to do that sort of work.

As soon as society stops looking at people who work with their hands like grease monkey idiots it will become much easier to fill those jobs.

I picked up a Model S Plaid in May that somehow cleared "inspections" with a nail in the driver's side rear tire (yes, the TPMS read way low even as the car was sitting in the lot for delivery/pick-up) and the windshield washer fluid hose was disconnected from the pump (yes, also apparent at delivery). It took two weeks to get an appointment - with a nail in my tire.

Tesla is no better.

BTW, neither are BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Land Rover or anyone else these days. 2 weeks is pretty normal, maybe 3-4 weeks if you want a loaner. My Land Rover Defender was delivered in December 2022 with no rear USB ports and only one key. Oh, the second key just came in - eight months later.

I only had to book 4wks ahead to get an appointment with a neurologist recently.. and that was as a new patient!

4+ months for an automobile service appointment... totally unacceptable!

What if you tell your neurologist that it's a safety issue? ?
6 weeks then, and instant refill on the gabapentin!

Yes sir!!! I was surprised! My R1T is not a car it’s a truck that can drive through over 3ft of water. The service center was ALSO surprised. End of story Donald!!! Have a good day!
Out of curiosity, what height were you in when you went through the puddle? Trying to avoid a similar situation as the roads around my community flood on occasion

Up here in Gaithersberg MD and Richmond, they're booking into late november / december already. Had mine in earlier this year for a axel bolt that had come off.... Now that same axel is making the loudest cracking sounds that it literally wakes up the neighborhood and scares the crap out of me every time I start moving and then continues to do a lesser loud crack when accel and decel. Even with a video and the fact that this seems to be related to a previous problem, i'm told I just have to drive it.

Really looks bad for them, as the DMV / NoVA is one of their biggest potential target audiences (with 6 of the top 10 income earning counties in the country) that i'm driving around with something that almost sounds like a gun going off. It's fun having people pull up and ask me if everything is ok.... Only for another 3+ months... Not the best advertising for them

A lot of people are claiming Tesla had this service issue during the early days, but they really didn't.

Tesla in the early days focused on low volumes of high margin products like the Model S, and then the Model X.

It wasn't till the Model 3 that the service really took a nose dive.

It still never got as bad as it has been with Rivian. Part of that has to do with the high complexity and initial issues of the R1T/R1S.

Where Tesla really started to suffer was support. At least with Rivian its fairly easy to email/message or call them. In 2022 when I traded in my Tesla on the Rivian Tok there wasn't any easy way to send a message to Tesla. I had completely given up reporting any SW bugs.

Rivian could increase their service capacity 10x. Or they could just stop delivering so many defective vehicles.

@pmorrow, that seat belt issue could be seen as a safety issue to move you up? Or get a mobile tech to come out?

I also picked up from Costa Mesa and even told the SC manager to take as much time as they need to prep the vehicle so I don't need to go back. But I just think they are under the gun to get them delivered and hope most customers won't scrutinize the vehicle they get.

I took delivery with some bad panel alignment, noticeable paint chip repair, plastic trim scratches, and a small dent. But at the end of the day, most of these issues shouldn't have fallen on the service center to begin with. Not to make excuses for them, but they are trying. We bought a Lexus a few months ago and there's a known issue with dash trim falling apart. It's not 3-months out but at the same time I wasn't able to get an appointment that same week.

Filed a service ticket the night I took delivery and got an appointment 9 weeks out. The service advisor tried looking at El Segundo to see if they had earlier openings but they were booked out even further. If it helps. they are building another SC in Eastvale to take some of the pressure off Costa Mesa and El Segundo.

Finally, if you haven't read about some other experiences, just brace yourself. Your car might sit for a week before a tech even looks at it. In some cases, if an outside body shop is involved, I've read of even worse experiences. Or appointments getting rescheduled and pushed further out. Plenty of threads complaining about service throughout the forums. Don't be surprised if we all end up experiencing some version of it.

Again, not saying it's acceptable, but it's just the reality of it, I'm sure Rivian will make it right eventually. It just might take some time and frustration for us early adopters.

This is all part of the new adopter woes and I have no problem at all waiting 2 weeks to 4 weeks for an appointment for minor things. Keep in mind my purchase price was a lot lower than current pricing (MSRP $100,100 versus $79,000). I am being compensated fairly with a price protected order from 2021 and $7,500 tax credit.

Any major items, they got me into the shop within a week time. I always had a loaner and they're happy to authorize a 7 seater loaner because my vehicle is a 7 seater. Even if that means it cost them $76 per day with taxes / fees.

This was more than fair to me in my eyes.

If I was in your situation and I don't want my car to sit outside for a couple weeks, I would just reschedule to when you're back in the country or try to have someone else pick up your vehicle if Rivian will allow it.

I would 100% deal with the ups and downs as long as you give me $30,000 to wipe my tears when I have to wait a couple weeks for an appointment.

I don't think I make $30,000 in a couple weeks, at least not yet. s00n I will but not today, so Rivian is making it worth my time today with a price protected order that qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit.
