Should you tip your PPF installer?

Agree with others here...if they do a great job you can leave them a stellar review online and/or bring them your future vehicles.

If I were to get a Cybertruck wrapped, I would consider tipping since the installer had to look at it for a couple days straight.

I do because I’ve carried multiple vehicles to the same place and installer. They always take care of me so I take care of them. They will fix or replace any film that starts peeling back or has damage without charging me again.

Most installers offer fixes to these types of issues as part of their installation service. I.E it is not considered “above and beyond”. In my opinion you are doing more than enough for them by being loyal to their business.

I hate the tipping system in general. I get that local conditions play a role. For example here in Seattle the minimum wage is $15 and it is not unusual for service jobs such as baristas etc to offer $55-60k a year plus benefits. I don’t see why I have to tip if the employees are being taken care of.

i subscribe to the “expected and customary” concept. If the service fits that definition (seated dining, hair cutting, styling, etc) I tip above the typical 18-20%. Even with poor service (which may not be the server’s fault in dining) I tip 20% unless I’m 100% certain it was a completely and blatantly careless error on the server’s part. Servers have bad days, make mistakes like all of us, etc. and I’m not going to screw them out of their livelyhood.

tipping ANYONE for a $7000 product installation is not “expected and customary” and I’m not going to contribute to that movement.

I "accidentally" payed a tip for my $2500 partial PPF. Was taken by surprise at the payment prompt and regretted it as soon as I left the shop for the reasons outlined by others

How much do you tip? Do you normally do a fixed amount or a percentage of the service provided?

Flat $100 for the ppf installer and $50 for the tint installer. Both are at the same shop.

Just no. Tipping has definitely gotten out of hand. Employers need to pay their employees a living wage and not depend on the customer to make up the difference.

Have you? The thought of tipping any of those professions has never crossed my mind. Tipping is ridiculous in the first place. Restaurants should just raise prices by 15-20% in order to pay their employees well enough to not rely on charity. If the service is above exceptional then you can tip but being expected to in order for someone to pay their bills is stupid.

Soon the ATM will have a slot where you can tip it with some of the cash you’ve just withdrawn. I’m happy to tip the ATM as I’m always using it to withdraw cash to tip my mailman, my doctor, and my mortgage.

It’s not “expected and customary” to tip a hard goods salesperson or dentist. My dentist is a personal friend and would be professionally appalled at the idea of accepting a tip from a patient. My wife (an MD) says the same, and it is also a violation of her employment contract.

I tipped my mechanic recently when he did the initial inspection of my Rivian when I drove up to make an appointment, and he said “let’s do it right away.” Not “expected and customary” tip but he provided a SERVICE above and beyond any expectation.
