They have infrared motion detectors. They detect something warm moving in front of them. They don’t detect their own movement.
So they could be used to, say light a gear tunnel so cats can use the litter box? :)

Ahhh. Those were the good old days.
lol i think some of the non outlet vehicles still have the wiring harness for it? it's a pink wire on the driver side under the plastic trim. either way you can also wire in the "activation" wire to the battery too so it's "always on." just gotta make sure you turn off any connected lights yourself.

the trigger 4plus is wired to the 12v battery so that's what powers the foglights and the LEDs. There's also an "activiation" wire that i wired into the stock frunk 12v plug outlet, so when the vehicle goes to sleep the trigger 4plus unit knows to shut off and not draw power from the 12v.
Thank you.
I envy you for that frunk outlet.

I don't know about you all, but the front trunk lighting only works well when it's empty. Once you put stuff in there, it's hard to see at night since the items are essentially blocking the lights. To remedy, I installed two of these. They're USB rechargeable, magnetic, offer warm or white lighting while being motion and photosensitive. This means they're off unless I open the hood at night. Since they're held by magnets, I could conceivably remove them for use at campsites, tailgate events, etc. Build quality is pretty good. I was expecting something cheaper a la typical Chinese manufacturing, but these are well-made. They feel solid.

One note: the frunk liner seems to be made of UMHW or similar (it's slick) so we'll see how long the sticker magnets hold.

I know someone on here did something similar, but I can't find the post anymore. If that was you, thanks for the inspiration. Hope this helps someone.

This is a great idea. You're right. Typical lights are in the frunk (or trunk), then get covered up by the load. This reminds me of the underhood lights on ICE cars. (Do they still do those anymore?)

Not yet, but I'm thinking it'll eventually be an issue. The frunk liner is pretty slick, so unsure how long the adhesive securing the mating magnet will hold.
Speaking of the slickness.. anyone know if there is anything we can apply to it to make it less slick? I tried to attach stickers before but they fall in the heat.

There was another thread with a Abstract Ocean video applying their (now illegal) Rivian decals to the underside of the frunk lid and it showed how easily the plastic frunk lid liner was removed. If the tape solution doesn't work, I imagine it would be pretty easy remove the lid liner, mount a strip of steel by drilling a couple of small holes and using some small bolts, and then attach the magnetic light to that.

This is a big miss for the R1S. I regularly go out to grab stuff from my frunk at night in the garage and even with my overhead garage lights on I can hardly see anything. Really need a good solution here.

That’s a great idea. It might come to this.

You can use Adhesion promotor, makes a world of difference. Just apply, let it cure for 5-15 mins, then stick the lights.

Not exactly illegal ?, just relegated to special order. Here's the video where I remove the interior frunk trim...depending on how old it is, these panels tend to off-gas or sweat quite a bit (we notice the issue with the vinyl adhesion), so again, the adhesion promotor will help with that.

Couldn’t you connect an aftermarket 12v light directly to the wiring for the OEM light in the frunk?

yep you definitely could, but i don't know if i want the lights on all the time when the frunk is open and it gave me an excuse to use one of the open switches i had available.

I bought these and they DO NOT stick, even with 4 adhesive disks per light. Beware!
