FWIW the night before prices changed I sent RJ a bunch of WTF memes and the next morning they retracted their statement. Not saying it helped but bourbon definitely did the talking!

LOL. I hear that! I had been drinking a little when I put my list together of all issues. Starting to think I work better when the whiskey is flowing.

I listed all my concerns with them and sent pics. I'm hopeful they all get done. That front clip had a small bubble in the paint...you could see that someone tried to buff it out, and it dulled the paint around the area where that front clip meets the fender. Another issue on the list.
if it’s going to a high end shop they should notice and fix those things too. Fingers crossed

I see the problem as if you do sell it you will have a year or 2+ wait to get another one rather than Rivian making it right but if you do prefer that then definitely go for it I say!
Just got an update. They are allowing me a new 7 day window after receiving it back after fixing all issues! Man, I gotta copy RJ on more emails. :CWL:

Really, its my fault. I shouldn't have accepted it at delivery. My elation at seeing one and driving one for the first time and not doing my due diligence in inspecting it more thoroughly is the real issue. Live and learn and I hope they can take care of everything.
I'm sorry you are in this situation. This kind of thing has been my concern for some time with the "make to order and deliver sold" process that is becoming the new model for selling vehicles.

I know the dealer model has *BIG* issues and has one foot in the grave, but I remain un-convinced that direct from mfg is/will be better. The ultimate extension of "just in time". We as customers have, in effect accepted a substantial portion of the financial risk that manufacturers used to take. Even if they fix everything perfectly, we have absorbed the time lost unless there is a direct replacement (Rivian) loaner. Something Rivian clearly cannot do. Even then, these are not entry level vehicles and many will not find a re-paint or whatever acceptable.

It doesn't sound like Rivian is solving this to your satisfaction, but I'm not sure you should beat yourself up for missing it on delivery.

I suspect that if you could have looked at several vehicles pre-purchase you would have seen this and perhaps chosen a different color or waited. At least you would have had the opportunity to do so before signing, getting rid of a prior vehicle, etc.

I don't envy you being in the position of returning the vehicle per the 7 day acceptance and waiting perhaps years for another. Not to mention all the related potential paperwork PIA that implies.

To my mind, the process is currently flawed. Offering a 7 day return, with no ability to get a replacement vehicle quickly is not acceptable.

Not to mention QC at several points in the process missing it on your truck and at least a few others. There really isn't any point in substituting one purchase/delivery model for another if this is what we can expect.

You might be shocked to learn just how many brand spanking new cars have been repainted before being sold. The only difference with a dealership is, in most cases, that the customer never knows that it happened.

Having worked in fleet management most of my life, I would not. And if it were just the hood and/or not a "luxury" vehicle I'd probably accept what is being offered assuming it met my expectations.

Anyone saying they would accept this should volunteer to trade their "perfect" truck with the OP. :giggle:

If I were RJ, which I'm clearly not, I'd filter all non @rivian.com emails to a different folder and only open that one occasionally.

I wouldn't pay list price 2 years ago for an R1T with this level of paint defect, and I'd be willing to pay 150k to get mine without paint defects right now, let alone 2 years ago.

FWIW ?
Wow! I hear what you're sayin' but $50k difference (assuming ~$100k purchase price) would sure put one heck of a custom paint job on this "defective" truck! And, as was mentioned earlier, a whole lot less $$$ would result in a WAY cool wrap of some kind...

Oh, and regardless, with my luck I'd be on my way home in my new truck and have a chunk of metal fly outta traffic and hit the hood anyway (ask me how I know :crying:).

Good luck to the OP...sounds like you're on your way. After a couple more weeks of waiting you're likely to have the best looking LA Silver R1T in the country...custom paint, custom panel alignment and white glove treatment! Good for you sir!

Yeah, and with the way these vehicles are supposed to be used, they aren't gonna stay new looking for long.

All of that is true, and none of it changes what would be me accepting delivery of a product from the factory that is clearly defective. It's not about the money, is the point I was trying to make.

Just got a call from service center...did say there had been a few internal bulletins about issues with LA Silver. Probably looking at a respray, but also mentioned something about "maybe just getting you a new one" :please: Probably pie in the sky, but....we'll see...

I still think it’s faster and less complicated, even on their end, to just get you a new one. ?
