What parts were a big PITA? My wife and I are going on our inaugural car camping trip in a few months and we plan on expanding to trailer camping.
For us it's been charging limitations around our area. May not matter where you are. Around here we have enough Tesla-only SCs and very problematic EA stations to make it suck. We've had to back-track to an open SC when a whole EA station was down. There are no reliable fast chargers between Phoenix and Tucson, and we can't make that trip without some charging somewhere. The compromise has been to charge at lower speed to top up the battery before the trip, or to plan for the 50kW but reliable charger in the middle. At least there's food and shopping there. In another direction, to a favorite camp spot in the Southern CA desert, again there are only options that are unreliable, or open SCs that are off the planned route.

You and I have opposite problems. Being in New England there are a ton of charging options, but no one can spell BLM out here so there aren't a lot of camping options short of private campgrounds. Not exactly "nature."

Then in the winter months there are almost no camping options at all.

We plan on going to Lake Placid in February for our inaugural car camping trip, then Lake Winnipesauke in NH in May and may go to Fort Wilderness for a Disney trip in September. All car camping. We have all the equipment we think we will need, but I feel after this year we may want to take the next step and that's why I have the three scheduled large RV and Camping shows on the calendar now for the next few months.

Yeah, I've heard about that once you cross the Mississippi, and no real off-roading either. The Southwest has vastly more open, usable/campable/off-road land than civilized spaces. When I leave my house on a mountain bike, I can be out of view of civilization in under 15 minutes.

There is an excellent analysis on towing and range impacts on the Aging Wheels channel. He determined wind resistance is more of an impact than weight.

We get as good efficiency towing as some do not towing.
