I heard from my doctor's wife's therapist's son (who does not even know what a Rivian is) that the Premium package will include running boards and captain's chairs in the second row, and you will be able to change the color of the interior lighting.

Its not particularly useful for owners not into baja style high speed driving on loose surfaces. Lack of lockers, missing winch, and heavy weight make it a relatively weak off road vehicle.

Wasn't Cybertruck initially quad motor? Real world physics may favor trimotor.

You forgot the long wheelbase. That also contributes to the relative weak off road list you have. And lack of aftermarket support. For me...that is why the Jeep is the off road vehicle.

If Rivian can release an Entry R1T DM (or PDM) with Large Pack (I tow a boat, and I'm guessing the new battery pack will mimic the new/larger R2 cells) in the low $70K I'm in. I will buy right away.

I would not say quad motor isn't worthy offroad, it really depends on the situation. If you're spinning only two tires with no vehicle movement, back off the throttle and pulse it on. Rivian pulls power back out of stalled motors to prevent burning things up.

Rivian also has a patent for a clutch system to combine two motors on the same axle so you can get the full output to the driveline as needed. I would be disappointed to not see it make production if they are moving all their motor tech in-house.

I've probably tested this particular off-road case more than most in the group. I am aware that you can mash the throttle and get it to do something and then back off once moving, but in that situation the last thing you want to be doing is deploying 800+ hp while teeter-tottering on the rocks. That said, other than intentionally trying to get the truck in this kind of situation I have found it to be quite competent off-road and no major complaints...especially since it's totally stock.

As for the clutch-like eLSD patent...that would be ideal and fix most of my issues.

I love my Quad but besides the novelty the power is a liability, do we really need more? Ok yes we always need more but seriously it's a pee-pee contest at that point.

Insurance company was like, HOW MANY HP? Yeah nah, go somewhere else.

I don't regret getting the quad but day-to-day I probably use 100hp in normal driving.

That's the same for everyone except maybe boy racers. I once had a car with a "horsepower gauge" that would give you a realtime readout of the power the engine was making. I was really surprised to see just how little power it takes to maintain your speed on the highway. The only thing that required a decent amount of power is accelerating from a stop and passing on the highway. Other than those two situations, the car hardly needed any power at all in normal driving. Even hills don't require all that much power if you're already moving.

But seriously, if Rivian has been listening to customer requests and the market analysis department is doing their job, running boards and captain's chairs are probably the biggest missing features requested, and would sell a premium trim like hotcakes.

Captain's chairs in the R1S would be exciting to anyone who has to haul children around. I can definitely see this as something most people are willing pay a small "Premium" for.

I think factory installed running boards are a harder option to manage on an EV. Anytime you make an exterior change, too many things like ground clearance, aero, etc. need to be considered and tested for. Easier for them to include some mounting points to make it easy to install 3rd party running boards.

People said same thing when I got my first Fox 5.0. "Nobody needs 225hp in a car". I heard that many times back in 1992...side note....I wish I had that car still...but I bet it would feel pretty slow now...

Sure...none of us need more than beige Camry's to drive....but dang that would be boring.

Simplified, torque gets you fast and horsepower keeps you fast. 1000HP takes a Bugatti to 250MPH, but it's shaped slightly differently to create downforces, etc. It'd be an engineering challenge to get rid of that much motor heat too. At least the shark-fin antenna would be good.

Beefier suspension with more payload
OEM lift, and/or larger range of adjustment???

To be honest, it would make sense, if that’s the direction they will take, to have that trim as the “Adventure” and the current Adventure renamed to Premium.

Maybe there’s a premium trim and a standard trim (ie a more affordable variant of the R1T and R1S)?
