Man I love this truck but it would be real nice to go more than a month or so without something new coming up.

Getting ready to clean out the bed and dropped the tailgate and the plastic trim on top just fell off. Seems some brittle glue underneath just gave up... Add it to the list for my next SC visit in a few weeks...

Were you still on the original piece? Iirc, they redesigned this a few years ago to stay on better.

Also if you have problems with it frequently coming loose, you can do this:

I'm trying to baby mine now - it's lifting up in a few spots where things get dragged across when unloading the bed. Mine's a 2023 - no idea whether they made any improvements before or after that.

Yeah the guy who had it before you probably broke it and glued it back on. It's supposed to be held on by clips not glue, but the clips break when you remove the trim.

My F150 has a similar issue! Why put trim where people are bound to drag stuff across it? I swear some designers either don't care, don't live in the real world, or have never used a truck for hauling stuff; the designers seem to be more concerned about a pretty tailgate vs functionality! At a minimum they could have used some concealed screws instead of flimsy breakable plastic tabs to secure things.

My Rivian isn't my work truck so it hasn't had the trim come loose.........yet. If it does I'll use some of the double sided 3M trim tape like this:

A lot of people have had this happen, there's a new design for the piece. I chose to just reglue the lock pieces back in, plus use a bunch of VHB tape to re-attach it. Particularly, one strip all along the edge that gets caught and pulled. It's holding nearly a year later and I have used it for hauling several times.

I just had to have mine replaced. The first time it came off was when I had cut down a tree and put the limbs in the back. When I dragged the limbs out, it pulled the moulding off. Since then it has popped off every time I drag anything across it. It finally fell off while I was driving with the tailgate down. There happened to be a police officer directly behind me at the time. He did not give me a ticket, and just asked me to put the tailgate up. The moulding had been run over several times by the time I was able to get it out of the road. Mobile service replaced it. I am an Alabama redneck and am going to just put a strip of black duct tape across it to keep things from catching on it.,:)

I really wish someone would make an aftermarket replacement for this. The 2 major things I'd want to see are: less tacky material (the soft plastic grips everything trying to slide out...) and a better way to affix it to the tailgate.

Sorry to hear this happened, I had mine fixed with a mobile visit the first time and have babied it ever since.

Mine is also broken, as are the side plastic pieces. I haven't even been as aggressive as putting firewood, or anything like that in there. Mostly just carboard boxes.

If they fall off I'll glue/tape them back on until the lease it up and I can hand this POS back to someone else.

"best work truck ever" say some.......What a joke.

I say this with love and concern, at this point you need to consider PTSD counseling, LOL.

This morning while unloading something I decided to give the cap a yank, after my repair a few months ago. Won't come off. I think the most important part of that is that I put a piece of the thinnest possible VHB tape along the entire edge that is inside the bed when closed, and facing up when open. VHB is super strong, but especially in sheer versus pull.
