Vandalism on Rivian - sharing for awareness

@Angelian I know this might be a silly question and in no way do I approve of this behavior for any reason, BUT I see Handicap Lines on the ground. Were you parked in a handicapped spot without the proper signage/tags visible needed to be parking there? Was he in a Handicap spot and felt you parked to close?

Hi Everyone,

Keep an eye out for this guy. This happened at Topanga Village before the mall opened, while I was at my appointmen. When i reciewed the other videos and my drive cam if he was following me. I found out that he's the car next to me when i parked. He got in his car and 2 minutes later, when he was leaving the lot, he stopped at my car just to put dents and scratches. ?. I filed a police report already, but I'm not so hopeful that he will get my car fix. I just hope that he won't do this to others. And sadly, my quote for the fix is over 5k. Please be careful everyone

Sorry this happened.. Did you try to get his plates to give to insurance and cops? If not, since you're in parking structure, would they have security footage to help identify?

Is it possible they are unfamiliar with Rivian, I've seen a few times where climate protesters have vandalized a Rivian under the mistaken impression it's a Full Size ICE/Diesel Pickup because they don't bother checking for tailpipes

I'm curious about this as well.

There are quite a few people out their vandalizing large trucks and EV's because their upset at the danger their doing to the environment.

So he could be one of these guys.

If I was the OP and either had time or lots of money I'd figure out who this guy was just to follow him around to see who he targets. Once I figured out his motives I'd show his mom the footage.

He'll never hear the end of it.

I've been thinking about this a lot - I'm so sorry this happened to you and am concerned that, by getting away with it, the perp will feel empowered to repeat it. Here's my suggestion:

• Contact the police and, if they won't do anything, tell them you need a police report that it was reported to them to file with your insurance
• Contact, and document, the garage operator to see if they have any video survelliance
• If the police won't do anything, contact your local TV station - they have reporters who love this kind of thing, especially if the police refused to look into it. They may even post your video in a short "local interest" story. Anyone who would do this will have pissed other people off and I'm sure that they'll be identified.

Happened in Phila recently. Someone had their R1S broken into at a park and shared the video with the news. They identified the guy quick style.

That is terrible - someone with a large chip on their shoulder I guess -Jealousy? I have noticed some people (usually in large bro-trucks) seem to be triggered by my Rivian. Maybe they are anti EV? They change their driving behavior and I'm not talking about someone just wanting to get a closer look.

Yes, they're anti-ev. Some people want to make statements by what they drive, such as the lifted pickups with oversized tires sticking out and the flag sticking out is the bed. At any rate the older I get the more I realize how dangerous public roads are because there's a lot of freaks out there.

At this point, I'd say your best bet in catching them is to report the story and video to local news stations. They love to air issues like this. In the end, I hope you can catch this dumbass.

Now that it’s been half a year since OP posted I wonder if OP ever tracked him down? Same thing happened to mine but just one panel and I was “only” out of pocket $2500 cash to fix mine. Unlike OP I didn’t get a video so never had the chance to publicly shame my perp.

To be honest, whenever I see a story like this, I always wonder if there actually is a reason. I mean, there's still never a good reason to vandalize someone's vehicle, but maybe a reason does actually exist. Maybe the guy got cut off in traffic and is getting his revenge by vandalizing the other guy's vehicle. You know, that sort of thing. People can be pretty cowardly and petty, but I have a hard time believing that stuff like this happens often for no reason.
