Hi all, first time poster.
I joined a couple weeks back before committing to my 2 year R1T lease.

my home charger was installed Friday (10/04/24) and I was at 100% Saturday morning and used 3-4% yesterday running about 6 miles worth of around town errands.

this morning, Sunday, it’s at 63%
This is my first EV so may be normal (though seems too weird, way too much loss imo), but what if I’m traveling or camping?

any comment is appreciated, Mike

Absolutely not normal, especially in a Gen 2. Gen 1 was ~1-2% overnight. Gen 2 should be less than that.

Thanx.

I may have found, or discovered something I did not know.

The interior (comfort) never turned off yesterday, I left the right seat belt plugged in since I took my doggo with me to run the errands.

After I posted this, I went out to charge and heard the main front fan running and the interior was a nice 68* (we're having a heat wave here in Livermore CA, so its already 75* out at 9 am).....

So, the vehicle does not shut down if the seat belts are plugged in?

The front belts, yes.

I think that you found your own battery loss problem. We often loose 2% overnight, but we use the crap out of the climate preconditioning features. We also use the remote camera feature a bunch.

FWIW i turn off climate and park in garage overnight, and I have observed less than 1% overnight loss every night.

Yep, you ran into the infamous front seat belt issue.

By the way, it's still mind-boggling that the vehicle can use 30+ kWh just running climate control for one day, that's more than my entire house uses in a day including air conditioning. But I think that's just a fact of Rivian life unfortunately.

Welcome to the Rivian family.

Let me ask this, what is/was the weather like?. We are experiencing a weird October heat wave in Northern California and when I walk outside the fan on the R1T is on.

If you are having unusally temperatures (really cold or really hot), the fan and/or heaters will activate and that will drain your battery. When I am at home I will usually plug the R1T in in the late evening and only charge to 90%....very rearely do I go to 100% and if I don't plug in and it is warm, I will lose about 5% or so of battery.

Hey @glassman ...welcome to the forum!

Yes, leaving Pet mode on or a seatbelt connected will leave the AC running as the truck thinks there's someone in the vehicle.

One thing I noticed is you said you charged your truck to 100% and then only used a little bit of it. Keeping your battery at a high state of charge for an extended period of time is generally really hard on it. As a general rule, these batteries like to stay in the 20-80% range and will last much longer if you do that so the standard practice most people do around here is charge to the 70-80% range on a consistent basis. When you're getting ready to leave on a road trip, then charge to 100%.

Another tip: when you're on a road trip, only charge to about 85% as it'll take at least as long to get that last 15% as it did the previous 60% in the battery.

I hope these tips help.

Using 3%-4% running around town 6 miles looks pretty darn good, not in my world. Indeed, my R1S consumed 8% charge and 32 battery miles (the state of charge change from one day to the next) around town, 19 actual miles of travel. That includes overnight drain.

Here's a random sampling from my logs of overnight vampire drain ( miles and percentage changes) over consecutive days:

-5 -2%,
-6 -1%,
-7 -3%.
-4 -1%,
-4 -1%,
-3 0%.
Have tried putting my R1S in camp mode and shutting power off and locking it whenever it is parked in my garage.
I wish the add could be killed. There just doesn't seem to be a way to disable it; it keeps turning itself on.

Hope this helps.

Seatbelt plugged in is a common issue. If they explained this at delivery we'd probably have like 50% fewer questions on the forums. ? Also gear guard off at home, unless you really need it. And don't set the vehicle to automatically unlock at home unless you want it to "wake up" every time you walk in your garage. And don't check the app 50 million times.

Mine "looses" like a mile a day. I don't even worry about it. ?

Edit: Unrelated, look at these dummies sleeping on the tailgate right now. This is why I have to leave Gear Guard off. You can buy them all the cat trees in the world, but daddy's expensive truck still makes a better "cat tree" for them, haha.
