What Jack are you Packin?

I've got the Pro Eagle Kratos off-road jack with the Rivian adapter and jack lock. I store it on the Range Industries gear tunnel slide (stores flat with the wheels removed).

Pictured here (the remaining bags are my tool kit, recovery gear, tow straps, and towing/hauling bag w/ hitch balls, tiedowns, etc.):

Curious, is storing the Torin Big Red on it's side problematic? I'm thinking of getting one to lay down inside my spare.

They can weep a bit of fluid now and then, but I store mine on the side in a zip lock bag with a small towel. Two years of four wheelin, duning and just driving, no issue.

I think the harbor freight jack is the same as the big red. I have the 8ton long stroke but haven't used it.

I use the 10T Torin Big Red and an ARB jack base and a Jackpuck. I figure the jack base is useful to have onboard to distribute weight in case I need to change the tire on soft soils or sand and the extra ~1" of height is enough to provide an extra margin of height. Without the extra height the Big Red isn't quite long enough to lift the rear with a single jackpuck (though I do have the 4 pack so could stack but stacking seems a bit sketchy to me).

Does the ARB base fit under the Big Red? From the pictures it looks like the base is meant to accommodate the circular foot of a farm jack, vs the squarish base of the Big Red.

Hello!

The base of the Big Red is smaller than the platform of the jack in your picture but I've never thought to be concerned because the ARB base has lots of ribs to support the weight of whatever is on it. I have just set the bottle jack near the middle and jacked away. The ARB base is a beast- it is heavy and rock solid.

If you were concerned about the jack base moving around, there are holes drilled all the way through the base in the four ovals as if it was designed to accommodate other types of bases and allow for positive attachment. If you were concerned about slippage, you could rig up something to allow bolting the Big Red directly to the base, but I've never thought it would be important. My usage so far has been rotating tires in my garage; I have not done an off-road change on soil. But one of the things I've realized about the ARB base: since it distributes weight pretty well, one could pile up rocks or dirt or even wood underneath to get it to the right height and to make it level in off-road situations. The base of most bottle jacks is relatively small so a lot of weight is on a small area when jacked up. If you jury-rigged something under just the bottle jack for a backcountry tire change, I highly doubt the jack would be stable- it would push into the ground unevenly and fail with the non-even weight distribution it would experience while jacking the Rivian all the way up.

I continue to like my setup. I have everything nicely fit underneath the spare in the bed of my R1T. It isn't in the way or taking up space unless I need to change a tire.

Before I bought the ARB base, I tried using a 2x10 as a spacer to get enough height. With just the Big Red, the 2x10 split under the jack. Not terrible because there is still strong wood under the jack, but the fact that it split is indicative of the amount of PSI the base is expressing to whatever it is on.

I had no idea it could leak fluid if it's stored on its side...Putting it in a ziplock now (and the towel is a great idea).

Also - Do people pack chocks in case you're changing a rear tire (since only the rear wheels are locked by the parking brake)? If so - which ones?

If someone is only lifting a single front* tire off the ground, then it isn't an issue, but otherwise, absolutely a wheel chock is necessary. I have one, just a simple unit from Amazon.

Google search mounts for this jack. Multiple options. You’d then have to figure out how you want to mount that to vehicle. Easiest to just get a plastic bin big enough to contain it.

I messed up on picking up one of the Badland off road jacks. I missed the sales that had previously happened with it priced below $300. As I remember, the regular price was $319. Now, they have it listed for $399, possibly due to the tariffs. I shoulda jumped on it when it was priced around $320.
