Where is the new Gen2 Quad???

I understand the Gen2 Quad isn’t scheduled until 2025… but why so little information?

- Why would they allow Motor Trend to do a review of the Quad many months beforehand and why was that the ONLY place to give a hands-on review??
- Why can’t they say when it’s available for sale and what the range and cost is?

It would help Rivian greatly, especially now that the Lucid Gravity is for sale. I’ve been personally debating between the Tri-Motor and Quad but holding out on an order until I can learn more about the Quad. But it really strange that Rivian won’t release any info and just says “2025” without any indication if that’s January or December. Does anyone have any actual info? Come on Rivian, please let us know what’s going on.

It's not 2025 yet, they are probably doing the last bit of testing/programming on it before release.

exactly -- which would make me think it would be BENEFICIAL for them to get this out sooner than later, as they might capture more orders from people delayed from the shortage. At minimum, there should be more communication. Even the sales guys have no idea if it's January 2025 or December 2025... which makes it very difficult to plan.

And regarding Motor Trend, their range estimate wasn't good, but I also suspect may not be entirely accurate and Rivian should come out and let us know the expected range. Not much different than letting us know it's expected performance, which they've already done.

It's the top of the line and won't account for a large percentage of the sales. I would consider it but most likely would go for the Tri-motor because of the cost. My current quad motor is amazing but we don't need to rush anything, make it perfect first.

agreed -- although rumor suggest that it won't be that much more than the Tri motor (a rep at a Rivian space told me $5k - 10k more). That's not insignificant for a single additional motor, but also not terribly unreasonable either.

I'm happy to wait, but to be honest, I can not wait to get rid of my Tesla (especially now) and eager to by a Rivian... so hopefully they will have some info soon so people can make a fully informed decision.

A bit tangential: I am all for Rivian bringing out the upcoming 1,000 HP Quad motor, sure. But I think it's too much power for the chassis and I don't want one. I own the current 835 HP quad motor R1S and I also own an even faster Porsche Taycan - which I mention so you know that I am not scared of horsepower. When I push the go-pedal in the Taycan, my brain says "nice, but this chassis could easily take more. Maybe I want a Taycan Turbo GT". When I hit the pedal in the R1S, my brain says "Wow, so this feels a bit out of control. I'm going to ease off a bit."
So a Rivian with even more power? Nope! In fact, if I had it to do again, I'd go dual motor performance in the Rivian - it's more than enough - and I'd save the horsepower for the sportier cars.

That's an interesting perspective and I've been wondering about it myself. Would love to test drive it. The Tri-motor felt comfortable even under acceleration, but on the highway it's certainly not as stable as a sports car. AND I'm leaning towards all-terrain tires (which might seem silly on the Quad), but I think the quad might offer some advantages off road.

Like others here, I don't really need the power or brutal acceleration that the Gen 2 Quad offers, but I do value the experience of having a motor on each wheel and the control it provides - we love the feeling our Gen1 Quad, its' noticeable over our gen1 dual motor..

I just pulled the trigger on a Tri—I’ve never felt sadness over a $100k purchase before, and I hope to never feel that again (context: we had to buy a new truck after our last one was damaged in service). The lack of information on the Gen 2 Quad—beyond "sometime in 2025"—was too vague. If they had been able to provide any kind of timeline, we might have worked around it. Not knowing if it's coming out on January 1st or December 31st was just too unclear and almost made us lose interest as customers.

No Enduro motors in the quad

Slightly tangential - but if the engineer in kyle's 9000 hour long video is to be believed the quad motors are now called "Ascend", to go along with the new "Ascend" trim.

Apparently they are more or less the same as the enduro motors, but with some slight modifications to fit 2 motors in the same housing. (and of course a modified electrical/cooling package to match)
