Just like an iPhone…I’ll skip a version (or two) before updating. I can’t justify the cost when there’s really nothing wrong with my Gen1….that has several years and thousands (I hope) of life left in him.

Not planning to, hoping my 22 R1T lasts a long time. I did reserve an r2 but will likely get that for a family member, etc.

Nope, will wait for gen3 for more updates if they seem much bigger and having NACS standard. Gen 1 and gen 2 re just too close of each other.

No. I'm fine with the Gen 1. I've always been an early adopter of tech and unless the "device" is total crap, I live with my decision and don't look back. I don't always need the latest and greatest and I believe in getting the longest use possible out of a "device" in order to maximize the return on investment. In general, I have a big gripe with the "it's disposable, don't keep it or fix it, just get rid of it for the next great thing" attitude that is so prevalent in our economy and society, but I digress.

Gen2 is a promising vehicle. I'm not planning to upgrade right now. I may lease a gen 2 later on but it won't be the tri or quad. I always said if I had to buy today I would likely opt for the PDM. Now it makes the most sense to go with the gen 1 quad due to the better incentives on them.

Though at the time of this writing there do not appear to be any more G1 QM in inventory in the US.

The Tri is much more expensive for the same performance but remember your getting a lot of options included automatically when you select Tri.

Judging from the posts here Gen 2 is having some teething issues that need working out.

I'm in watch and wait mode. Current resale for EVs male this an easier decision as well.

We're approaching the 1-year mark with our R1S and plan on keeping it a long time. I'm hoping that my wife will let me take it off-road in 7-8 years when it reaches "beater" status. We have a reservation for a R2 and the 2026 timing should work well as we will be replacing one of our ICE vehicles then.

On a different, but related note...I'm not sure I could afford a Gen 2 R1S Quad to replace our beloved Rosey if something happened...It's priced more than $30K above what we paid! I pay Allstate approximately $12/month for their "New Car Expanded Protection" which will replace my car in the event that it's totaled in the first 3 years. For me it's money well spent.

I priced out a similarly optioned gen 2 R1S Tri Motor. It came out to more than 40% more than my gen 1 R1S Quad Motor. Yeah the reviews are great and it has better suspension, is a faster vehicle, has better range, and feels like a completely new vehicle. But not sure I can justify the additional cost. What about everyone else?
Plan on keeping my R1T and buying a R2S when available.

Nope - all set - love our R1S gen 1 - it's been awesome - great range - good updates and only 8 months old - and in the end cheaper.

I love the the new storm blue paint and the slate sky/walnut interior. I like the idea of a heat pump, Apple Car Key and vastly improved camera quality. And it would be great to get from my place in downtown Salt Lake City to Moab without a charging stop.
Google Maps says it's only 234 miles between downtown SLC and Moab. Are you just not willing to charge to 80% to 90%?

Of course, used EVs traded for new ones aren't actually discarded, they are sold to people who don't want to spend the dosh on a new one. They will all get driven until it no longer makes economic sense to keep them going.

Not considering upgrading or another Rivian purchase until a service center is within 45 minutes of me. (I have had 3 service center visits in one year for separate issues).
