IMHO you don’t need that kind of speed in a truck or suv. I’ll take the corvette when I want to go fast, that’s what it’s made for. My wife and I always get a big chuckle when we see an suv or mini van that says sport.
The R1 tri motor will hand your corvette its ass unless it’s a Zo6 and even then it will give it a run for its money. If you’re referring to the classic corvette in your profile it is a beautiful car but I’d venture the Rivian handles better than it too unless you’ve dropped some serious money for a restomod. It’s an almost 7k lb suv that doesn’t need to say sport on it because it’s faster than almost anything else on the road.

Personally I don’t like having a go fast car and a daily driver. I want my daily to go fast because otherwise I’ll feel guilty that the car I don’t prefer driving just sits there. The R1 is a great choice for me because I’m faster than pretty much everyone else but I have room for all my stuff and am comfortable.

I don't understand the desire to go with a staggered setup especially on an AWD vehicle. You can't rotate the tires and any treadwear warranty is cut in half.
Rivian seems to be treating (and pricing) the Gen 2 quad like a supercar, kind of a gimmick aimed at the really rich. The tri is their new "expensive but still practical" vehicle. Not sure where that leaves off road enthusiasts.

I don't get the positioning other than trying to one-up Tesla. I had staggered rims on my Plaid and went to a square fitment and bigger tires all around. Definitely better with an AWD car. At least with it, I could adjust the front to rear power balance when in track mode. Going with a square fitment (and bigger tires up front), it helped reduce the car pushing in turns when not in track mode.

Impressive!

I guess I can only speak to my experience. NEPA SCCA and Central Pennsylvania SCCA both do AutoX generally in mall parking lots or similar. There is 0 chance you're getting any kind of speed. Your longest straightaway is probably 1000' at the *most.* Quick math suggests to get even 0-60 in 1000 feet, you need a 2.5 second 0-60 car, so definitely not hitting 80, and in reality, you'll be braking well before that 1000 in order to get prepared to turn (typically 90 degree, into a chicane or similar).

Good times all around, though!
We have two main sites, one is an old airport parking ramp and speeds are much lower while the other is an old NASCAR oval track with an infield road course. There are portions of the oval/infield where it's hard to put any elements to slow folks down a lot and 70 was pretty easy to hit if you had the brass for it and then the finish occasionally got faster. The current course designer for that location has reigned things in a bit since those days.

I don't really want it raised. Mostly because I'd 100% use it.

This. I don't really have space for a toy vehicle, but even if I did I would hardly ever drive it. I drive 3 kids to school every morning on my way to work and I regularly pick up 3-4 boys from Lacrosse with all their gear in the evenings. On the weekends I am either shuttling kids to sports or going camping. The R1T is truly the perfect vehicle for anyone who wants it all in one vehicle. Is it a sports car? Obviously not, but it's much more of a sports car than any real sports car could ever function as truck. I want to enjoy every drive I make, and my Rivian never disappoints.

I guess you need to upgrade to the Gen 2 Quad to get the proper launch mode with higher top speed.

The quad goes like Hell, but stopping 7200 lbs is a whole ‘nuther story. Physics is physics! Haha
Just think of how much regen you can capture slowing from 130!!

I posted a detailed analysis/opinion regarding the speed limitation a year or so ago. To summarize, I looked at documented specs for Bosch EV motors, Rivian's gear ratio, tire diameter, etc. and the math worked out almost perfectly to 112 mph top speed without exceeding the Bosch motor max RPM specs. I think it is a motor safety/warranty decision by Rivian and/or Bosch to limit the speed in Gen 1, not a "You don't need to go that fast" nanny thing.

Gen 2 uses the Rivian designed and built motors, likely providing a higher max RPM and/or using a different gear ratio.
Thanks for doing the research, gen 2 quad sometime in the future...when it becomes available in the used auto market. Till then I'll rack up the miles on the gen 1.

I'm in L.A. and I've probably exceeded 100mph a few times passing vehicles. It feels plenty quick and I don't think I've ever hit the limiter. My Bolt EUV has a 92mph limiter and I bump against it all the time.

When you see a model X plaid do low 9 second quarter miles and out corner most race cars, that redefines stereotypes.

There's a guy locally that races his gen 1 quad on pikes peak, pretty impressive he made it to the top in 10 minutes. Can't find the vid as Rivian did it with the gen 2 and I think he may have taken down the gen 1 race vid. But he was topping out at 110 pretty easily.
