First road trip from Toledo to Cincinnati to watch the Braves play. Parked the car for the game and was able to plug into a J1772 plug for the duration. After the game we were about 50 miles short which was planned so we headed to an EA charger. Tried 5 of the 10 with no luck. EA was worthless and claimed no error on their end but quick to dismiss it. Rivian went through the basic troubleshooting with no solution.
They suggested trying a L2 charger and then trying the DCFC again. Found a 50kw CCS on our way and again, no charging. Then found a 7kw J1772 which worked so we charged for a few minutes and headed to another EA charger. Once there, again tried nearly all with no luck. At this point we were about 180 miles from home with 140 range. Wouldn’t have cared if I was alone but had my 7 year old daughter with me who was exhausted. After multiple other chargers via PlugShare, no CCS charger would work. Tried a 24kw plug and finally the last EA on our route. Finally gave up and am currently about 95 miles from home at a Hilton that is on Rivian tonight.
This is my first experience with any CCS charger and wondering if anyone else has had a CCS issue? I charge daily with a J1772 plug with zero issues.
Soft reset tried, hard reset tried, turning off gear guard and letting truck go to sleep for 15 minutes as tried as well with no luck.
I will say Rivian has been pretty good with accommodating anything I needed but wow, I may need to rethink my ownership until RAN is available in my area if this is going to be an issue.
