Misaligned steering wheel issue on R1T and R1S -- NHTSA Customer Satisfaction Campaign RCA-10-23-002-1

So you needed to leave the car for the alignment at SC? I was hopping to wait 1-2 hours and get it back.

Please, update us on Monday if they really fixed the problem

I recently picked up my truck after being in service for 3 weeks. I had issues related to general noise and ride quality. truck was leaning to the passenger side front a little bit. and bunch of smaller issues I had been piling up.
Picked up the truck and learned all 4 of my AT tires replaced because of uneven wear. I only had 1700 miles on the truck. was shocked to learn that. Truck drives more straight now but this time my perfect steering wheel alignment is 2-3 degrees to the right. Still getting the highway shakes after 70 miles an hour. Saw here some people say it might fix itself on its own. hoping for that. not worth going in for another service wait and visit.

I was also told that there may be updates or upgrades coming down the line for steering system as it is apparently too light for this truck this size. I was told something like this.

leaning issue to the passenger side is fixed but now truck leans to the driver side more aggressively.

at this point, I am in "it is what it is" mood. just don't give a shit like I used to.

There are different problems, I guess most of us talking about steering wheel alignment 1-2 degrees to the left. The car drives straight, and not leaning to any side, but the steering wheel is not straight. I do not see any unusual tire wearing after 1k miles, at least for now.

Your issue seems to be related to more complex problems. Ours seems to be more related to the recall.

I can live with this problem (training my OSD), but if the fix is easy and straightforward - I would like to fix it.

I am in Austin, TX, and will try to stop by SC and talk to them on Friday/Saturday. Not sure if they will share the true information with me, but worth trying.

Rivian must be bleeding money with all these service issues. Three weeks to fix issues is going to cost a lot of car rental and this isn’t unfortunately an isolated occurrence. Whatever the Uber fans say three weeks in the shop for a new vehicle should not be normal or tolerated. I am glad I put my order in hold until they get better with assembly quality.

Nothing to defend here I think - this should not really happen as it is really easy to identify after any test drive. I do understand that things happen, but they continued to deliver vehicles knowing that there is a problem with alignment. And this is unacceptable.

All cars between particular dates are affected.

My last four vehicle purchases have been Tesla's. 3 out of 4 had many service visits from the get-go. My last and current one, a Model Y, hasn't been to the service center yet in 6 months of ownership. I guess when I purchased this Rivian, I assumed I'd have an initial service visit to schedule, based on my last 4 vehicles. But for something as silly as a crooked steering wheel, I was not predicting. ?

just got my truck back. was in the SC for a week with a few different things. mostly minor stuff. the two i was most concerned about - clicking from front end and the alignment. they said they fixed the alignment and while doing so noticed one of the camber bolts was not torqued to spec and likely thats the clicking.

well... the alignment is not fixed. its exactly the same as when i left the truck. wheel has to turn a few degrees to the left in order for the car to track straight.

i haven't noticed the clicking yet but that was intermittent and only at slow speeds while turning and/or going over bumps. so far no clicking.

doesnt give me confidence the clicking is fixed if the alignment isnt fixed. and speaking of confidence. when i picked up the truck the rep said there was a printout of the alignment test in the truck. there was a printout but upon closer inspection it was for another vehicle. which is no big deal but when she went back to get mine she said she couldnt find it and that it was likely never printed. oh boy....

anyway, i know some folks have tried multiple times to get their alignment fixed so not sure if i should just live with it or submit another ticket. not a huge deal but a bit of a pain in the butt.

I had no steering wheel misalignment issue until it came back from service with one. I had it straight when I got it first delivered. i guess it is possible to have it perfect and somehow get it misaligned after servicing it. don't really know what it means.

What SC did you use? It really seems to be a very inconsistent experience between SCs.

Not sure if anyone can chime in here and share how good/bad Austin, TX SC is.

Just picked my new R1T up last week, and first thing I noticed was the steering wheel was not centered going straight. Had to "turn" slightly left to go straight. Put in the ticket this morning.
