I was just off grid this weekend in the white mountains, the search functionality didn't work so I had to zoom into the map and drop a location pin to get it to manually route. If you know the address before hand that would work too.

Disabling WiFi is not cool at all. All else is fair game.

You can connect your phone to the Rivian audio system and stream over bluetooth. You don't need to use the camp speaker.

I’ll try to make this a short as possible. But be warned, that in the future when Rivian starts to charge for the LTE connectivity, if you want to opt out you will lose more functionality than you realize.
I mean what is the "warning" here? That the car loses features without internet connectivity? I mean that seems obvious. Subscriptions are not going away any time soon unfortunately - but I get that mobile networks aren't giving this connectivity away for free so of course Rivian will need to charge for it at some point. Plus roaming. The costs could be insane.

There must be people in the continental U.S. who take their Rivian to places without LTE connectivity, isn't that some of the marketing message from Rivian? How do all these features work there? Yes I need to go experience this myself, no I haven't done it yet.
ATT has roaming agreements for places you can drive to. I can't drive from the US to where OP is.

Fine with me. I despise att. Satisfying my hatred of them is worth any inconvenience.

While I would pay for the LTE service, I am in a region that they prohibit me from doing so.
Sorry if I missed it, but can you explain where you are? I assume you're not in Iran, or North Korea, or somewhere like that. Is there normally AT&T coverage service in your region?

I assume by the time this becomes more common, Rivian should have agreements with various regional cellular carriers? #shrug ?

I was really just fishing for the functionality hit when you are off grid and if it was as dire as expected. I totally get the idea that if there is non standard LTE available, there should be a way to use it even if that means paying for it somehow.

I am just mentally prepping for the future and trying to decide which services I would pay for.

Sounds like the OP has effectively gone off the grid by shipping the truck away from the regions where Rivian and AT&T have an agreement in place.

I feel the OP's pain, but I don't think it's fair to expect Rivian and AT&T to offer connectivity in places (countries? continents?) where Rivian doesn't sell vehicles. Why license connectivity for places where you don't operate?

Anyway, there's likely a difference between the complete lack of cellular connectivity the OP is experiencing (again, a bummer) and not paying for enhanced LTE connectivity in the US.

As stated already, I'm sure there'll be some basic functionality in place here, just not the bells and whistles.

I’ll try to make this a short as possible. But be warned, that in the future when Rivian starts to charge for the LTE connectivity, if you want to opt out you will lose more functionality than you realize.

I have exported my vehicle and it worked perfectly until last month when Rivian gps locked the cellular module in response to AT&T’s request. Without cellular connection you can’t use any data services while you drive, Alexa, stream music etc. and you can’t tether a cellphone as a hotspot while driving because Rivian has disabled WiFi when not in park. Seemingly in preparation to force people to purchase the lte plan.

More evidence that they want to force people into paying for the plan, is that you cannot wake the vehicle when it connected to wifi alone. So parked at home, connected to wifi, you are unable to use any of the app functions. Climate control, charging setting etc. will only wake if it has a lte connection.

So this is your message from the future. While I would pay for the LTE service, I am in a region that they prohibit me from doing so. I have experienced how the Rivian would function without the lte connection and it’s… not great.

Also service was extremely unhelpful and condescending about this issue. I guess I am a lesser person because I am not in the continental us? I mean I did have to purchase a vehicle in full to be able to export but that doesn’t engender any sympathy or respect? My last interaction I just asked why they couldn’t enable WiFi while driving. The service rep proceeded to tell me that the Rivian can connect to wifi while driving?!? Eventually he read the manual then said he never said it could? What?!? Anyhow thanks for reading this far and letting me vent.
That is no different than my Escalade., this is not something esclusive to Rivian. You pay to play.
