When the charging stalls are all full, how do you know how many people are waiting in line (and who's the last one)? I stopped at a few EA spots recently that were full and wasn't sure how to queue up properly. Last night someone ws nice enough to notice I'm looking confused and let me know they're finishing up soon. Chargepoint has a waitlist feature that works well at my office, is there such a thing for EA or EVgo?

Thx!

Great question. I don't use fast chargers often enough to know if there's an established "protocol." When I haven't been lucky enough for a spot to free up within a few minutes of my arrival, I usually just go to the next nearest station rather than jockeying for position. I think the rule should be that the biggest EV goes next . . . ;)

I usually just look around, don’t care what the order of people in front of me is just who they are.

At the Tesla Super Chargers over the years it has worked out well. occasionally you will see someone jump (or try to jump) but people for the most part respect the process.

I find it confusing, awkward, and uncomfortable, plus I lack the patience. I'm now in the habit of charging early and often on road trips in an attempt to avoid the situation. As I approach the freeway exit for the charger I'll check the appropriate app (e.g. EA) to see how many are open. If it looks full I'll skip it and head to the next one. Having a large buffer of range gives you options. I know that's not the answer to your question, but my opinion is it's just not worth if you can avoid it.

Don't have to wait very often but if I do I just start chatting with people and you quickly find out how many are waiting and who you are behind.
I have yet to wait at an EA station, according to my EA App 42 charges, but have had to wait many times at Super Chargers in SoCal.

This. Open your window and talk with people.

A week ago was at a full EA station and despite a long line and the next person having their daughter and wife standing in the spot while he pulled over the car, a real piece of work in an EQS rolled up and started backing up directly at the wife and 5 year old. Could have gotten bad, but a nice person who was almost done pulled out and let the father charge there instead. The EQS driver ended up skipping the line, but don't be that guy.

Just pull up, get your camp speaker out and turned up to max volume, then strip down and oiled up for some good sun tanning in the bed of your truck. A spot will open up quickly.

That's because parking lots weren't designed for queues to charge electric vehicles. The whole process is vague. It only works out when either there's unused chargers, but they're busted many times at EA, then what? Or if it's obvious there's a single line. With EA, someone jumping the line is an issue as half their chargers are busted or charge slow. So when someone does that, it really creates a delay for that behind him. And if you do catch someone cutting the line, then what? Call him out on it? Fight as on throwing punches? Accept it and wait longer? Then of course there's those charging to 100%, how do you handle those?

No, you strip down first, then oil up, then go check the charging status of everyone. Spots open up quickly, then start charging to 100 as you sun tan in the bed.

Extra credit if you get out of your truck initially wearing one of these Borat singlets.

I like it!!
That's great to wear when you ask others if they wouldn't mind if you can cut in front.

Please don't do this. Human brains are not wired for parallel tasking. Rear end collisions where the distracted driver's foot is still on the accelerator kills way too many people and cripples even more.
