Has anyone towed over the 11k capacity?I think to move a boat that's roughly 14k lbs including the trailer and fuel. I also need to launch the boat and drag three boat back out of the water but don't want my truck to get dragged into the water lol.

That would be really the only concern right now is the ramp being a bit ramp and slippery and truck and boat goes bye bye

I wouldn't. This truck is heavy but it's not rated for 14K lbs. Now there was a video of a guy who used his T to pull a full tractor trailer semi off the side of the road back onto the road. The guy didn't say what he scaled at but it could have been up to 80Klbs and the Rivian appeared fine afterwards.

Would you be okay, most likely but I'm always for using the right tool for the right job. You should have a diesel dually to move that heavy of a load and you know you will be safe.

If you were towing the boat from point A to point B a few miles away with OUT a boat ramp, then I would say go for it. I personally would not launch a 14k lb boat with the R1T. Rent a dually for an hour and you'll know you'll be fine. $100 rental fee sounds pretty nice compared to the possibility of losing a $90k vehicle.

Curious, are you talking about actually towing on roads or moving it around the boat yard? I would be fine moving it around the boat yard but would hesitate going out on public roads.

I think the tow rating for the R1T and R1S is more about the tail wagging the dog than actually issues with moving the weight. That is why the longer R1T is 11k and the shorter R1S is 7.7k lbs.

you'll be fine.
Is that from experience with other vehicles possibly lighter than this? The only thing I'm worried about is the boat ramp even though I've seen even a light Lexus suv pull a 30ft boat probably weighing in about the same. But it was sliding down the ramp lol

Most likely wouldn't have an issue but I can't recommend anyone tow over what the vehicle is rated for. That's a pretty big amount past the rating.

Take it out on the street and anything bad happens, it'd be your fault as you are clearly over weight for the design of the truck...by a significant amount. I'm not a lawyer, but any nim-wit ambulance-chasing lawyer would make an easy case out of you.

I wouldn't do it. Not because I don't think the Rivian can't actually tow 14k but because of the other common boat ramp conditions you described (steep, wet, etc...)

I try to not test Mr Murphy unless absolutely necessary.

I agree the Rivian can do it just as well as a 2500 series Chevy or F-250 with a tow rating of 14-15K pounds. I wouldn't recommend towing any distance beyond the boat yard.
Then again if something were to happen you are knowingly voiding your warranty.

My thoughts are - comparing to a 2500 that does have the proper towing capacity, there really aren't any advantages other than the components are engineered to tow like that all the time, for many hundreds of thousands of miles. The things that make you ABLE to tow are the same - weight, tires, power etc. TLDR - if a F250 can do it you can do it. Maybe not for 250k miles though :)

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
The good news is that your truck has nearly 40” of fording clearance, so if you do get yanked backwards into the water, you’ll almost certainly stop when the boat floats, thereby limiting your negative velocity.

Video, please!

(Note: I would not do this with my own truck)

Towing it around the boat yard, so long as the tongue weight does not exceed 1,155 lbs should be ok.

Towing it on road or trying to launch with it is not a good idea. As you probably already know the tow rating is based on the amount the vehicle can safely tow. When you go over that your pushing the vehicle beyond it's safety limits. Damage, injury, death, and property loss much much more likely. I wouldn't do it.
