I did a 5-tire rotation with a floor jack and jack puck. No issue with performing the rotation except now my TPMS wont re-register and I have to wait 2 months for a service appointment.
so I was advised Discount Tire is an official tire partner with Rivian. They might be able to help?

I did a 5 tire rotation myself at 7k miles, using the jack kit with the truck. I am about to do a second one before a trip, but now have a puck and will either use a floor jack or a bottle jack that I have.

The scissor jack that came with the truck seems marginal at best, so I was placing a jack stand under the control arms, just in case.
Hey there, I initially bought a bottle jack to use for my rotation. Very unstable as truck has to be in AT mode at highest level. Went to Harbor Freight and bought floor Jack. Less tress fuel and easy.

I have aDaytona 3 ton floor jack and a Big Red 12 ton bottle jack. I plan on using the Daytona this time, it has a pad on it as does the puck. The floor jack will roll, which makes it more stable if the truck moves a bit. I also use wheel chokes

You are probably aware that on a Rivian the TPMS don’t register until you drive a bit as per the Owner’s Guide, and you have probably tried reading them after driving 10 minutes or so.

So, as someone else suggested, go to Discount Tire, Tire Rack, or other tire shop where they can check them by simply holding their TPMS programmer against the outside of the tire to read the sensor. That can at least tell you if the sensors are good or bad.

Performed my first 5-tire Rearward Cross rotation today. Used a Harbor Freight 3-ton floor jack, a mag puck, and my Milwaukee impact wrench + 190 Nm torque extension bar. Hardest part was getting the 20” AT spare out of the compartment and getting the forward puck covers open. The rears push in and come out easily, the forward ones wouldn’t come out easily without prying them for some reason.

I always rotate a full-size non-directional tire into the mix. It gives you 20% overall more life and you replace all of them at the same time. Tires need to be replaced not only for treadwear but for time as well.

It's been several weeks since I rotated them and they have not re-registered. I'm 100% convinced this is a software issue.

I’ve been doing 5-tire rotations for a long time, my last several vehicles were full time 4WD and you want to keep the spare tire diameter as close as possible to reduce stress on the VC. Probably not as big of deal with the 4 motors, but I’m sure the truck would have to compensate for a new spare if installed with well worn tires. Just something else to consider, AWD also wears the tires faster than FWD/RWD vehicles -

Did first rotation myself in driveway at 5k, only drawback I’ve felt not having the oil changed because I couldn’t have them do at same time ?

Maybe not. I have a TPMS relearn tool that I have used for years for tire rotations on my Silverados. I'm not sure that it will work on a Rivian, but it may be worth a try as these relearn tools cost less than $10 on Amazon.

I just received my spare on Wednesday and put that into rotation on Saturday (yesterday) at just over 7600 miles. SO far, so good. My 21s don't seem to have significant wear and they appear pretty even. I originally had them rotated (4-tire-wise) when my R1T was in for service around 5k miles.

I see a lot of people talking about 'when to rotate' and my guide and service center advisors have been completely non-committal in terms of a mileage, and my mobile service guy told me 'when you start seeing uneven wear' and even though he's been out here twice, both times told me not to bother. The Engineer in me refuses to not-rotate, so I will just do my own every 5k miles or so.

You might have to update your TPMS programming tool since Rivians did not exist when you bought the tool. I had to update mine (via mfg’s website) that I just bought 3 weeks ago as it’s firmware did not have latest version when I received it. The update actually added quite a few new vehicles on mine.

Reason I bought mine is I was going to need 5 additional sensors for the new wheels I bought. At Tire Rack the sensors alone were going to cost over $300, and I found the programming tool + 8 sensors of my choice at www.tpmsnetwork.com for just $30-$40 more.

I have five 22's and a second set of four 20" ATs. Since I'm swapping out the ATs every "winter" and my yearly mileage is consistent month-to-month, it makes the most sense for me to rotate on a schedule rather than mileage. So, in March I install the 22's (rotated), in July I rotate the 22s and in November I mount the 20s (rotated). I store the 20s with a painters tape label of their last position.

I would not switch to 4-tire rotation once the "spare" is worn for several reasons:
  • Tires age out. This is the least of my worries but a factor that might effect some.
  • I don't want a worn spare as my backup, regardless how infrequent this might happen
  • If I had a tire issue then I'd feel obliged to replace the damaged tire and the worn spare I was riding on anyway.
  • It's more difficult to DIY a four tire rotation, I'm already setup for the 5 tire (or 4 tire swap-out).

i insert my Jack pucks first, then use floor Jack. Presume you do the same.

Yes that is what I do. Did the second rotation yesterday, then drove it this morning and the TPMS started working after 10 miles of driving. I do notice sometimes the pressure readings are — at the start of the drive, but I normally do not have that displayed by default.
