Hi All, I picked my R1S last Thursday (I reserved early in '21), and I've noticed a problem with the vehicle's GPS system: the position doesn't "lock" and bops around within 50 yards or so longitudinally. It's not too noticeable when driving on the highway, for example, but it's highly problematic when coming up to an intersection or stoplight. It makes using navigation frustrating, as the system constantly reroutes. I did try resetting the system, to no avail. I did make a reservation for service, but it's in November, partially due to the SC's schedule and partially due to mine; however, the guide is trying to expedite things. Regardless, any suggestions on what to try here? Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Yep. Mine loves to fast forward me through intersections (while stopped waiting for a light) then beams me back to where I started

Happens on my R1S, not my R1T. It’s driving me nuts.

This what service said about it. I think we need to kick this up to Wassym via Reddit.

EDIT: I can honestly imagine a future OTA release note reading:

“Fixed a rare GPS issue in which the vehicle location was inaccurate as the vehicle slowed to a stop.”

I've had the bounce at stop signs and stoplights. Never had a re-route as far as I can recall. I pretty much know where I'm supposed to be going per navigation by the time I'm stopped anyway. So I can't say its ever bothered me. Just kinda' weird.

Happened on my R1T. A software update fixed it. But it took 2 trips to the SC for them to do it.

Me too, I've had this "gps bounce" and reroute when coming to stop since day 1 on my R1T. Very annoying, so I make a point of checking the directions before coming to a stop.

Mine's been mostly fine (on par with google maps on my phone, maybe slightly better), but this past weekend we did an entire 40 minute drive where it began with a ~30ft error and grew to about 1/2 mile. Made navigation beyond useless.

That, combined with not having up-to-date traffic and road restrictions make it almost useless when Google maps is at my fingertips on my phone. Wish they would just give in and support Android Auto and Carplay.

We have the same issue. SC didn’t fix but took note of it…

My R1S does this when I stop at an intersection. Very annoying and could be dangerous.

I understand it could be annoying, but how would it be dangerous?

If you’re using Nav in an unfamiliar area, say slowing down in traffic on the highway or exiting a confusing off ramp, the “bounce” can cause an unnecessary re-route and being in an unfamiliar area, the driver can potentially take a wrong turn or try to cross lanes unnecessarily to follow the erroneous re-route.

@KingTodd explicitly said "stop at an intersection."

I would hope that a driver wouldn't be attempting to do something risky and possibly illegal at that point. As long as you don't turn the wrong way onto a one-way street, I don't understand the danger. Pretty sure most one-way streets are posted as such.

Maybe it's my age but I've been lost a few times, pre-in car navigation (paper maps. Remember them?). Annoying, frustrating at times? Yes. But I never thought it was dangerous.

I have had this several times. They had to replace the Telematics module.

At one point, I was a beta tester for the new "Submarine" mode:

I labeled it dangerous because generating confusion for the driver does increase the likely hood of accidents. At a minimum it distracts the driver ever time it reroutes especially unexpectedly
