Greetings all, I replied to the other threads and thought my issue would be a fairly straight forward fix. It appears its not, so here goes. My wife drives the R1S so I am not in the car daily.

Had service appointment for 2/19 after noticing the carpet was soaked with water while cleaning the inside of the car. We had been noticing a musty smell which began to get stronger but had no indication there was water in the floor. We have all weather mats which prevented us from discovering the water. The musty smell was so strong that I could smell it on my wife when she exited the vehicle. I called Rivian service support two more times to request the move the appointment up to prevent further damage to the vehicle from the water. They moved it up to the 9th.

We had the water issue and a more minor issue of the left mirror not remembering its position. The work order had floor coverings and HVAC component on it. They told me it was a 5 hour job to replace the HVAC box.

The R1S sat from February 9th to approximately 2/22 which is when I received a call from the SC. They stated the part finally came in but that COVID had gone through the SC and folks were out so work would likely not start until Monday the 26th.

The SC called again on the 28th and stated the water issue was fixed, but that they were trying to update the firmware to fix the mirror issue and "the firmware wouldn't take".

Two more days went by and Friday the 1st all items were checked off in the service screen but it was still showing as in progress. The SC called me again on Friday and said that there was still a moldy smell inside the R1S and that they were going to foam clean it over the weekend and it should be ready on Monday.

On Monday evening I called service support because not only was the truck not completed but the service request now shows several other items to be replaced (see images). They put in a message for the SC to call me with an update.

Tuesday the 5th and still no call from service so I reached out to service support again and the person I spoke with would not give me any information about the new service items. Said I would need to discuss it with the service center. When I asked him if he could tell me when those items were added he replied that "the conversation was not moving forward in a productive manner". Advised he sent a message to the service center to call me ASAP and I thanked him for his time.

Now today its 2pm and I still have no call and there is no activity on the vehicle. I honestly don't care about it taking longer to fix, but I am concerned about the lack of communication from service about what is going on with the R1S. The new items are pretty significant like replacing both the 1st row seats, thermal control module, refrigerant system, etc.

Has this ever happened to anyone before where there is good communication going and then all of a sudden radio silence? The folks at the service center have always been good to me so I am confused as to what is going on with the vehicle at this point. Obviously they haven't been able to fix it.

Initial work that was all marked as completed as of Friday the 1st of March.

Could be the parts associated with the fix. Getting a complete carpet kit, insulation panels and any wiring that needs to be replaced, could be the hold up. When I recently had our R1S in for suspension/ drive issues caused by a water leak, the main hold up was replacement interior panels. They ended up getting it done sooner than promised and haven't had an issue since.

That would be very annoying. Hopefully they are just pulling everything together to get it done, but the lack of communication is still an issue for them in many places. I hope they get it all cleaned out after they remove everything. I would be worried about mold.

Not the first report of water under mats but probably the most extensive repair needed. Probably a good excuse for the rest of us to be prompt if they have unexpected smells.

Quick update. I did get a call this evening from the service center. Apparently the person who has spoke to last week is out this week so I'm not sure what happened and why they marked it that they called me back. But in any case they answered all my questions and the car is still not ready but it should be ready soon. They had to take it all apart again to replace something else to get rid of the smell. Apparently this is a problem that's happened quite a bit on R1S and they have an updated HVAC assembly now to prevent this from happening again.

I'll update everyone again when we get the vehicle back.

We have had some musty smells the last few weeks in our R1S and I came across this thread. I lifted my floor mats and the floor is soaking. I have an appointment scheduled for next week, but I'm worried about them not replacing the carpet but rather just cleaning it. If there has been any mold potential, I want me make sure it gets taken care of. Could you give a screenshot of what they exactly had to replace, especially with this "new HVAC unit" to prevent this from happening in the future?

My R1S is in the shop right now for this exact issue. I used a shopvac and then fans to completly dry the carpeting (make sure you check the passenger side carpeting as well - mine was wet over there too). We got in for a service appt in just over two weeks from when I reported the issue. My service advisor told me that they evaluate the carpeting and decide whether to have the detailer shampoo it or replace it. I don't know what they're doing with ours. We kept driving it, but only used the A/C for no more than 15 minutes at a time and the carpeting stayed dry for us. Good luck!

If there is a smell that carpet and padding/insulation should be replaced. Shampooer will not be able to remove the smell.

hi, reviving this old thread. We are now having a similar problem, wet carpet. The difference is that we also have water sloshing around inside the frame on the driver’s side. Lots of rain the past 2 days.

was wondering, what did Rivian do to resolve it?

Hey there, the door slashing is another known issue. It’s likely a drain that’s clogged in the door, causing water to become trapped. Unfortunately, for our R1 S because it was let sit with the water had to be replaced because they couldn’t get rid of the mold smell.

Thanks. I’ve watched your channel before, didn’t realize it was you. Haven’t seen this video yet though. Very interested to check it out.
