On a barely-related topic: I’m going clear ceramic on R!T windshield. Has anyone had experience with the suction cups on a Valentine One still sticking to tinting? Seems like it would. TIA.

Does anyone know if all ceramic tints create rainbow effects with polarized sunglasses? Hated this on airliner windshields, in certain lighting conditions. Thanks

In CA here. I put 70% (the lightest available) on the windshield and front doors. It makes a difference heat wise. Also, if you get pulled over, be nice to the offending officer and roll your windows down before they get to the car. They will appreciate seeing inside and you can also hide the tint with the windows down. They likely won't even notice the front has any tint on it.

I‘m in the desert also and researching tint shops for my R1S. I came across Cool Solutions in Palm Desert. It’s the only one in the area that I could find that carries Llumar. Still poking around at options.

I’m interested in Stratos because it comes in 70% for the windshield. I’ll possibly do the roof with 70%, as well. I bought a sun shield that works OK so far, but I’m not sure how well it’ll work in the heat of summer.

Considering 35% on driver/passenger windows. Not sure if I’ll do the rest yet.

What shop or shops have you been in touch with? Looking for recommendations.

Beautiful truck BTW. Congrats.
I'm in LA Quinta and am getting my truck in a month, please tell who you end up going with and the tints you use, it seems 50 percent on windshield seems popular and 20 on side windows.

I went with Cool Solutions in Palm Desert and I’m happy with the experience and results. Excellent, 5-stars. They carry FormulaOne/Llumar. It’s the only authorized installer I could find in the valley. I went with 35% Pinnacle on the front windows and Air 80 on the windshield. I was going to go with Stratos but they did not recommend it since it wouldn’t match well with the factory tint. I think it has more of a blue hue to it. Front 35% is not a direct match to the rears, but I didn’t want to go too dark. On my last car, I did 50% on the windshield and 15% on the fronts. While it looked really great, I did have a little bit of an issue with nighttime visibility. If you go 20, it should match the rears perfectly. I would recommend Air 80 in the windshield to preserve visibility. It still blocks a lot of heat.

At the moment, I don’t think doing ceramic tint on the rears is necessary, but I am aware the factory tint does not have ceramic/IR protection. I thought about doing Air 80 on the rears since I don’t want them any darker, but the factory tint seems to already do a pretty good job at blocking heat. We’ll see how it goes this summer.

Also, I installed a set of shades for the sunroofs which helps a lot. They are black with a reflective coating that faces up and easily clip into the sunroofs. Found them on eBay.

I did Llumina Ceramic on my windshield. It helped with the heat a lot. I've done this on a few of my other cars and had no issues with the V1 suction cups. Also, no blue haze. I forget it's there.

FWIW to the OP, I did an experiment about 6 years ago (posted it on youtube somewhere) with all windows in a Model 3 tinted except the windshield and another model 3 with no windows tinted at all. The result: the tinted vehicle got hot just as quickly as the completely un-tinted vehicle. It was not that the tint failed, it was just that the windshield let in so much heat that the rest of the tint had no measurable impact on cabin heating rate.

IOW: tint the windshield or you are more or less wasting your money. The other tint will reduce surface temp on your face, but it will not slow cabin heating unless you also get windshield done.

After all, many people drive with transition lens glasses and deal with this just fine.
Fyi, transition lens dont't work in car as windshield blocks UV which is how they trigger.

Interesting: Lots of opinion(s) on the forum expressing that the windshield is the single most important piece of glass to apply UV tinting. I am also considering clear, UV on the panoramic roof panel. Any thoughts there?

All the glass already has UV blocking on it. The 3M and others will block IR and maximize Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) while allowing as much visible light as you choose (90%, 70%, 50%, etc.). Clear usually means 70% visible light or more when you are talking to tint shops. Good tint makes a big difference in heat rejection and lowering your AC load.

I recently tinted my R1S windshield with Llumar AIR80. Full writeup here:

I have not conducted a scientific test, but the car feels much cooler.

The tint appears totally clear. No issues at night. I have a few pairs of polarized glasses from different companies, there is a slight rainbowing with polarizes sunglass lenses, but not significant.
