I've had my R1T for 20 months. Alexa never worked consistently. If I'm parked in my garage and connected to my home Wi-Fi all is well. As soon as I drive 100 feet Alexa says sorry can't connect to the Internet....even though there are 4 lte bars showing. Rivian wants me to take a day off and drive 120 miles to a service center to diagnose the problem. Has anyone had this problem and found the cure? I've done soft and hard resets in the past which temporarily fixed the problem....that no longer works .It sucks to pay $80K+ and get such inconvenient service.

Sign out and sign back into your account on the vehicle? Also download the Alexa app on your phone. Does your vehicle show up there? Does it show 'online'? There's a bunch of settings there you can fiddle with that may or may not help. ?

How is the internet coverage working without Alexa? ie.. does the hotspot work with LTE and not drop off intermittently? This would rule out an TCU module if everything is working. Alexa works pretty much the same with our Echo's in our house as it does in the car, meaning it is hit or miss. My wife hate's Alexa, because she doesn't understand her commands half of the time. I kinda feel the same way as Alexa when she gives commands... ?

The cure is sign up for Connect+? Or tether your phone for internet access?

I've been using my phone as a hotspot and Alexa works fine. The problem is that there is no Rivian Internet connection even though it shows 4 bars

Because you don't pay for Connect+. That's the data plan for the truck. Just like your house; if you don't pay an ISP for service, you don't get internet.

OP has not come back to respond to questions. But since there still seems to be a lot of erroneous information getting posted, here is the list (per Rivian) of what works and what does not work if you don't sign up for Connect+ data plan:

Almost one year of ownership and have never had Alexa for more than 5 days. Same message...internet not available. Have done many soft and hard restarts and am done with those. Took 4 months to get a service appt and will go in on the 19th. People with more knowledge than me suspect the TCU so that MUST be replaced. We shall see. The last 4 months the map has been unstable also which may be due to the lack of good hotspot and WiFi. Frustrating for sure. JB

Thank you...that explains it. When I spoke to the service rep on the phone I wonder why he just didn't ask me if I signed up for Connect+??
I appreciate the responses to my post. I'm using my phone as a hotspot without any issues. Not sure if Connect+ is worth $150/ year. Drive safe and happy!

its a $100k car....$150 for it to function as intended seems fair.

Yes, Connect+ is arguably the better option. I know that many features require a data/Internet service, which is what Connect+ is. I just was not particularly interested in shelling out the money for it, partly because I do not care one bit about the streaming apps, which seemed to be the big deal about Connect+. Losing live cam a la Tesla Sentry Mode gave me some pause, but still not enough to warrant Connect+.

Then I realized that my Alexa was gone, too. That was a bridge too far for me. Sure, I could have tethered my phone and go that route, but quickly discovered that this require more hassle, time, and effort. Far more expensive and much less convenient than $150 a year for Connect+.

Connect+ is on my Roberta. Alexa is back. I am a very happy person, indeed!

So Alexa commands are not part of Live Navigation?

Some basic Alexa commands, maybe. But there isn't really any good documentation as to what 'Alexa Basic' is.
