“Raw dog it” - Inigo Montoya: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means”

I don’t drive a Tesla, so I don’t care what they do.

I know a lot of people are excited, I never question that drivers want it, I’m asking why?

as one member stated, it’s cool. Ok, I made my entire career in technology, I appreciate cool tech. I just wanted to get use cases from the people that think it’s cool.
You've never made it to any appointment early before? Instead of sitting in the waiting room, you can sit in your car on a comfortable chair and watch whatever you want on TV without being bothered. I'm going to use this all the time.

All the time, and usually it means that I can get started and finished early instead of just sitting around.
Must be nice. If you show up early for an appointment here that just means you wait longer.

- Average fast charging session is 42 minutes.
I sincerely hope that number is wrong. If it is correct, then holy hell we need to educate folks about charging. Very, very few cars take anywhere near that long to charge even 10-80%. My average charging stop in the Rivian, a relatively slow charging vehicle that's also inefficient, is probably 30 min and often less. Unless I'm towing I've basically never seen a charging stop take over 40 min. Modern 800V vehicles like Hyundai/Kia, Porsche, Lucid, etc are all pulling 15-18 min 10-80% charges...fast enough that the car is probably done before the car occupants have taken care of business. With few exceptions, if that's the average, then far, far too many people are charging to very high state of charge on DC chargers and clogging up the stations. Encouraging this bad behavior with in-car video isn't ideal.

You love to attack people.

How many people charge at home? The person above stated 98%. You tell me the answer, Mr. know it all.

While you sit and wine, you have not told me one use case. I asked a question and you just wine and distract.
To whine is to complain; wine is for drinking.

@good2go, that other person's post wasn't very kind, and that's unfortunate. Let's just ignore it and move on.

To be clear, I didn't say that 98% of all charging happens at home. That stat is for myself and my family. If memory serves me (which it sometimes doesn't), 80-90% for the general public sounds about right. But don't quote me on that, I dont have real numbers in front of me.

Yea I was surprised at this number too. Heres how I think we end up at 42min though:
- Not all DC fast chargers are 150kW or faster, ~20% are.
- ~45% of DC public fast chargers deliver charging speeds of between 50-100kW, only 15% of all charging sessions deliver at over 150kW.
- I think you're right about general consumer knowledge about charging curves and best practices. I routinely see people sitting at DC fast chargers above 70%.

I just don’t get the use case. I’m going to pay for connect+ so I can watch a show for.20 minutes will I charge on the road?

Most people charge at their home. When are they going to watch a show in their vehicle?

I just don’t understand why this is important to Rivian owners.

I think the problem is the tone your post is conveying. Rather than being an inquiry as you intend, it comes across as skeptical and judgmental. I don’t know about the other users, but to me it sounds like this: “what kind of idiot needs to watch stuff on their car screen and pay for connect + for the ability to do that?”

maybe just a misunderstanding

For what it’s worth, I suspect there are and will be a significant number of former/current Tesla owners that became/become Rivian owners. While this feature is, as discussed, not a daily use for many people, it is also something many crossover purchasers (like myself), are just used to having.

Sure, I only go on long road trips 4-5x/year where I public charge, BUT, I live in a cold climate with 3 kids. So, if we’re waiting for more than 10min for something or someone, and it’s November-April, it’s pretty convenient to put something on for a few minutes if the mood devolves.

I’m happy it’s happening, useful for these occasions and I do honestly suspect many EV owners use public charging in urban areas much more frequently than a lot of us here on the forums.

My update is installing now, but I assume this doesn't work as audio-only while in motion? Understand that video-in-motion will never be allowed (well, maybe on the back screen please) but can't see a reason why you shouldn't be able to listen to things while driving.

No. No casting at all in motion. The software does not differentiate between audio and video centric apps.
