Looking forward to taking a trip later today with Google Maps. I know this is a silly nit, but I have to say I liked the map coloration of the MapBox default basemap better than Google. MapBox's cooler gray matched the rest of the Rivan daytime UI better than the muddy tan that Google seems to use as their base color.

Continuing to overthink it, what is the value prop of having it in the mobile app? And having it gated to Connect+? This is the device where 50+% of people have Google Maps as a default app on these very mobile devices.
Using it in the Rivian allows you to plan trips and see where charging would be needed. The separate Google Maps app doesn't do that (to my knowledge, but maybe something has changed the last time I tried it?)

2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

I took my R1T for a charge this morning and used the new Google Maps from the center screen.

I do not like it! The rendering was terrible! It looked like something from a 1990's discount GPS. Instead of the route following a smooth curve (like at cloverleaf on-ramp), the arc of the path was made up of short, straight lines joined end-to-end. Not impressed if this is considered "an improvement".

I had no issues, at all, with the previous navigation system.

As far as I can tell from the desktop browser version, there isn't a way for you to inform Google Maps that you have an EV and which one it is. So it doesn't account for charging stops and range estimation. You would have to search for and get directions to specific charging opportunities.

Still waiting for my update to push.

The only time I've been in the first batch was the update that bricked all the displays. Rivian paused the updates and had to push a patched update a few days later. Happened to everyone updating in the first wave.

Okay to wait for the first few to push out ahead of me.

Interesting. Sounds like something that can trivially be fixed in an update though. Google Maps line drawing is fine on every other platform, so I would assume this is a bug more than anything else.

That doesn't sound right. It could be a bad data signal, or maybe you need a quick soft reboot.

The app allows you to select which vehicle you have and also which plug style you have. You can also find chargers along your route that are specific to your plug type, but it does NOT take into account range of your vehicle and when you would need to stop.

When I tested it, the app picked the chargers I would need based on the trip and the current charge of my truck. So it seems to work differently for me than what you experienced.

Just more of Gen 1 is yesterday's news. I don't see why a lot of these can be ported over to Gen 1. The more I see of these, the less likely my next truck will be a Rivian.

The Google Maps app does that for you? Or are you talking about the Rivian app?

I think you are referring to the Rivian App, we are talking about the Google Maps app.
