If money was nothing, I would likely get a Gen2 quad. Others are a bit of a downgrade to me. The door handles are still a concern, but leaving the mechanical release cover off might suffice - assuming it's possible.

But if $100k was nothing to me, would I be driving a $100k car? It's a nice car, but is also a bit of a diva. For the most part, service needs to get better. It has spent more time in Service than all the family vehicles together.

It is at SC right now for suspension leak and I had the "opportunity" to get a Model 3, a Mitsubishi (not an Evo) or a Pacifica. I got the Pacifica. I still have my old car anyway.

I’d highly recommend driving a Gen1 R1S Quad with 22s and comparing it to your Gen2. The Gen2 and later Gen1s are definitely a step up in suspension, but when it comes to snappiness, moving from 21s to 22s and dropping over a foot of wheelbase (R1T -> R1S) makes more difference than the generation shift.

The electronic doors didn’t hold me back from getting a gen2 - but I would have preferred the mechanical doors of the gen1 to have stayed - there is no advantage at all to the electronic locks from a UX standpoint as implemented by Rivian.
Fair point. I'm giving the credit to the rear power bias of the tri but some of that could be switching from the T to the S.

For me living in a cold climate it’s the new heat pump. Super noisy and unable to put out enough heat at -40°.
I love EVs for their quietness. My Gen 1 quad (serial ~26,000) has been doing great so far.

I have an OG gen 1 R1T, and I'm beginning to eye upgrades over the next 1-2 years, but two things that will absolutely keep me from it as non-starters (if you're seeing this Rivian!):

#1 Audio: No way I can give up the Meridian sound system for Rivian's current HW and sound capabilities. They gotta improve for the price points of these vehicles.

#2 Mechanical doors: Major safety issue (thoroughly discussed in other threads), and to be honest I much prefer the user experience/ feel of mechanical doors.

Here's hoping Rivian can consider these in future model years and/or the R2 lines! 🙏
Meridian audio is high on my list for not upgrading too, but probably second to cost. Even if you think the Gen 2 TRI is equivalent, that is still $10Ks higher than the Launch quad. I have an early reservation for R2, but I'm not sure that I'm ready to give up the air suspension and truck bed of the R1T. I know that suspension will someday turn into a maintenance money pit, but it's so cool, and what makes the R1 the best option for campers/offroaders.
The doors aren't an issue for me at all.

1...I've experienced this and it's a major setback.

2...I've experienced this and love it. I hated going backwards from the Tesla doors.

800V and faster charging.
Better thermals and a bigger battery for non-local towing, but also faster charging overall. It's kind of shameful that they can't hold 200 kW for longer than 15 minutes with such a large battery.

I haven’t gotten one yet. But one of these biggest things is the stereo. 100k to get a crap stereo is bs. I test drove one and the stereo was horrible, than I went and played with it on the one in the show room and it was great. Not the only thing holding me back but it’s one of the top. Is it really that bad, or a hit or miss thing depending on the vehicle you got.?

$$$$$$ is the main one 😂, OG quad was a steal!
And the church of Rivian says Amen!

We are Q1 2024 buyers of the Gen 1 Quad Large. Anyone remember the crazy things Rivian was doing with the math back then to achieve their quarterly target?

At the time I was completely oblivious to the kind of deal we were getting. Then earlier this year I started pricing out a lease on a similarly priced Tri Motor and also Dual Maxes that had enough options to bring them to about that $100K. I was dumbfounded at what the lease payments were going to be.

I keep telling my wife that we’ll never be able to replicate the deal we got on this Quad.

Gen2 dual large+ here. No experience with Gen1's but I'd never go back to an ICE vehicle, opt for performance upgrade, tri or quad. Looking at replacing the zeros after 14k mikes aka fast enough the way it is. Only horrible audio issues I have are with FM radio (daily cannot connect error) considering its a computer on wheels makes zero sense. The updated cameras, & soon to be released EHA updates (Needs a cooler name like rivian cruise) is why i went with G2 over used G1.

For me, it’s the lack of 800v charging. Unless I win the lottery, I think I’ll hold onto my Gen 1 until the next gen R1.

Sure we got NACS & went to google maps, $1 says we get android auto/apple car play before we see a 800V Rivian. Clearly a reason "Y" is 400V not 800 like CT.

I don’t really expect them to see this, though they have in fact cited forum requests in the past. I certainly care far less what you think, with your condescending tone and arrogant attitude towards sharing my two cents here though. Cheers, lovely old man sir.
FYI Unsung zero is not at his/ her first arrogant comment, I blocked this user a while ago…
