2026 R1S Quad - 2001 F150
Traveling Las Vegas RAN to the Superchargers in Ely, NV tomorrow.
251 miles, 5300' elevation gain according to google. Rivian says arrive with 15% if I start at 100%.

Would like to go 70mph and I think it may cut a bit close. My first real road trip in the 2026 quad with off road tires.

Will this be easy? Do I slow down? Please let me know what you think. Love to hear if anyone has been on this road.

On the road tomorrow Friday morning.

In my travel experience the Rivian is pretty good at estimating the arrival percent in the navigation. If it says 15% you should be good. Set the destination in the navigation and it will update as you drive, 70 should be fine but if the arrival percent starts dropping you can drop to 65.

I’m not sure if the 2026 quad has a dedicated conserve mode, my 2022 does and I switch to that once I get on the highway on trips and it gets me around 10% extra range.

Have a good trip and safe travels.

Heck, in my experience Rivian is a bit conservative with it's navigation estimates... I usually get to my destinations with 1 or 2% more than it originally guesses.

Yup! Unlike my Tesla model Y, the arrival percentage tends to go up rather than down precipitously like in the Tesla

You should make it there comfortably based on this information, without any hypermiling. I'd gladly eat my words, but Rivian has been the most accurate EV I've experienced as far as range estimates are concerned - perhaps even too conservative as others have noted.

It seems like the Rivian estimator has gotten better recently, it's probably trustworthy.

My rule of thumb is 1000ft elevation gain = 10 miles of range. So I'd think of this as a 300 mile trip for range purposes.

With the 34" Pirelli All-Terrains, 70mph, Conserve mode ... it's probably fine but could be close if for example it's windy or cold. 65mph would help give you a buffer.

i have a gen 2 quad max pack and make a 250ish mile trip every month. it will make the trip without a problem as long as you don’t drive too fast.

conserve mode adds at least 10%, sometimes more, and so does staying at 70 or lower. if i get up to 75, i see the percentage remaining drop off visibly faster. not really worth it for arriving 5min sooner. i usually average 2.3-2.5 m/kw.

I’d go 65mph max.

Conserve Mode first, then listen to the laws of physics. The single biggest range factor under your control is drag. Start the trip at 5 mph below the speed limit and watch your predicted state of charge at destination. When it's up at a comfortable level, you can increase your speed. I think it's always best on a very long leg to start slow then speed up if able, rather than start fast and try to recover lost energy in panic mode. I always like to have a Plan B on long legs in remote areas, even if it's a level 2 charger at a car dealership.
Oh, and have fun. Put it all on Red 25 to pay for those new tires. 😃

Tire pressure - make sure it’s not low when cold. This is one of the biggest and most overlooked aspects of getting the most mileage/kWh, even 2-3 psi makes a noticeable difference over a long highway trip - that and driving as smoothly as possible :)

I agree with others: the route planner is pretty accurate. Personally, I just watch the level at the destination/arrival number, and if it shrinks uncomfortably low, I start an energy diet with conserve mode, no A/C, lower speeds, etc. One additional way to extend range not yet mentioned is to remove predictive charge stops, so it doesn't put energy into pre-conditioning the battery. I prefer to do mini-charges <80% with preconditioning enabled for most trips; it feels faster and less stressful, with a short pee-and-stretch break, or dog potty break.

First time poster, long time lurker. 2026 R1S dual max. Am I unreasonably pissed off to see Rivian Roamer reporting my real life range closer to 315 rather than the reported 410 when fully charged? The trip calculator seems to report accurate arrival mileage, but that 410 seems to disappear pretty quickly. At least when the Taycan said 215 it meant 215......

The route planner isn't that accurate for me. I recently drove to Las Vegas and, at the first charging stop, it estimated I could leave and arrive with 22%. I left and arrived with 9%. I was locked in at 72mph. There WAS a 45 minute delay for construction where we just sat and creeped forward for a few miles but I can't imagine this accounts for the 13% error.

Porsche are without doubt the masters of sandbagging when it comes to EPA range - I don't think anyone is as 'honest' (frankly pessimistic) with how they set up their cars during the test cycle.

There's nothing wrong with your R1 (most likely); I've written overly long pieces on how rivian do their testing, but in summary: they are amongst the group of MFS who play games, but far from the worst. 315 miles real world for a max pack'd R1 is right around what I think most folks here expect. You can get ~400, but you need to drive like grandma to do so.

Edit: the numbers shown on the energy screen for range are simply a fixed number for mi/kWh multiplied by the addressable kWh viable in the battery pack (which varies a bit at the same SOC based on temperature etc) - as of today its got nothing to do with driving habits etc.
