Rivian R1T R1S A true luxury is having cold drinks always at hand 1775407752290-ht

Refrigerators hate to be out of level, and like most, this was annoyingly noisy when just laying on the seat. So I 3D printed a wedge to level it.

And it would slide around a lot, plus would be a deadly projectile in a crash, so I printed a seat belt guide to lock it in place. I put the seat belt in the lock mode so it can't move at all.

A few days ago I was on a flight returning from a trip, and ended up in a truck/EV discussion with the person next to me. He was sorta anti EV but listening. Now remember that I'm in Phoenix, and it was already over 100, with the Rivian's cabin cooling kicking in as needed.

"We're landing in a half hour, so I'm remotely turning on the AC and my in-car refrigerator now, so I have cold drinks ready as soon as I get in."

Yeah, not so anti-EV now, are you?

In all fairness most any modern ICE vehicle can be remotely started from a phone and have the same 12v fridge power up when its outlet gets power after the start. I used to do it with a 2011 Tacoma but had to install and aftermarket remote setup.

Right, you need to do work to make it run for more than 5-12 minutes, and also idling ICE for 45-60 minutes like I did is murder on them. Not the same.

Nice. LATCH solution would be next level.

How do you remotely turn on the outlets? Don't see that as an option in the mobile app

I like this idea, very clever!

And also, that seatbelt looks like it will reduce the likelihood of the cooler flying forward during a crash, but not stop it. With enough inertia it looks like it might just tumble end over end because the seatbelt is so low.

It runs from the 12v which turns on when you remote start the AC.

I should look for pre-made 3D files for that. Or just accept "good enough." Hmm.

Good point on the time limit for the engine running on remote start.

I don’t buy into the argument that idling is bad for the engine though. Up here it’s common in the winter for an engine to idle 10-15 minutes before and after work every day to warm up during the four coldest months. The engines aren’t failing people any faster than normal. My own vehicles get used oil analysis at each change and have never shown increased wear metals or fuel dilution.

Murder on everyone else in the garage, too.
LOL, well exhaust doesn't kill people any more, thanks to catalytic converters.

Not an hour, and not in very high heat. You think an engine idling for a long time in AZ summer isn't being harmed?
