Anyone who complains about their SOH should first be willing to make an accurate assessment of their charging habits. How often do they go below 20%, how often do they charge above 80%, how often they DCFC versus L2, etc. But yeah, I echo the thoughts of several who have already posted here, it is going to be a shit show of complainers. I welcome the additional information though, as I am a junkie for details and knowledge.
The only thing I think I did that caused faster SoH degradation when compared to others is a lot of very hard acceleration events (WOTs). I floored it regularly. A few times I arrived at home with close to 0% SoC, but that was rare. I didn't DCFC very often and I only charged to 100% right before a long drive. I think it was the WOTs.

I wonder why no-one wonders if their gas car gets the same mileage as new.........This is utter nonsense and meaningless. SO many studies with over a decade of data show this is meaningless, but the masses want it so they shall get what they desire.

Personally have had EV's for 1/2 a decade and learned early range anxiety is just that, anxiety and with good habits 100% avoidable. If your ICE vehicle hasn't ever run out of gas this is essentially the same without the vapors that explode. If you run out of gas in an ICE vehicle and it's a habit, you're kind of screwed.

You may not have caused any harm with WOTs. I read somewhere a while back that periodically having fun with some WOTs might be good for battery health/longevity.

By the way, my previous statement wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular. I think generally the Rivian ownership crowd are more informed than the typical consumer. In my experience over the past 5 1/2 years since placing my GEN1 order, and over the past 3 1/2 years of ownership, most of the folks I’ve encountered in the forums seem to be a technical crowd as much as they are outdoor adventures and enthusiasts. I have however, had conversations with other owners when at service centers who seemed to have no idea what they owned.

I ran out of gas exactly one time around 20 years ago. I will soon be celebrating 30 years of marriage. My wife never ran out of gas. Although she hasn't mentioned it in a while now, I know that it is part of her ammo kit in a very deep arsenal that could resurface at any time without warning. I also have learned to just keep my mouth shut any time she does anything even close to wrong, which largely explains reaching 30 years.

I remember back in the day when RiDE had SOH and mine was 96% for the longest time.... then just before they removed the tile, it dropped to 95% I've been living on the edge of my seat ever since.

I'm guessing 89% at this point, but I can already hear the uproar on Facebook, Reddit, and the Forums. "I have a Rivian that's 2 months old and it's already at 98%" or "How come this guys battery has a higher SOH than me, his vehicle is older... Rivian needs to make this right"

The motor temps were fantastic, but my god the amount of fire fighting that it caused was unreal.

I wonder why (just kidding!) Rivian didn't include data on vampire drain? That definitely falls into "SOH" of the battery. Of course, I would promise not to compare VD notes with others on this forum, because.. It wouldn't be polite!!

And from those who can't tell difference between orange from red, and thought their new cars were overheating. Even though they never received any warning messages of such. Sigh. Do they take only cold showers I wonder...

For what it's worth... Back in February 2024 SOH in the top right.
Rivian R1T R1S Battery pack SOH state of health data is coming in software update! (SOH, distance since last updated, max potential charge rate, current charge rate) 20231218_210644

Wonder if this is to get ahead of new requirements:

recurrent

Relevant quote:
"
One of the easier ways to talk about battery health is by comparing the original battery capacity, in kilowatt-hours (kWh), to the current battery capacity. The change between the original and the current capacity indicates some degree of capacity fade, or loss in total available lithium that the battery can store.

However, not all EV manufacturers report the actual battery capacity, which changes as the battery ages.

Luckily, starting in the next few years, both California and the EU will require auto companies to make battery health information available. The language from the EU regulation is,

“Article 14 requires that rechargeable industrial batteries and electric vehicle batteries shall contain a battery management system that stores the information and data needed to determine the state of health and expected lifetime of batteries in accordance with the parameters laid down in Annex VII. Access to the data on those parameters in the battery management system shall be provided to the legal or natural person who has legally purchased the battery or any third party acting on their behalf at any time for evaluating the residual value of the battery, facilitating the reuse, repurposing or remanufacturing of the battery and for making the battery available to independent aggregators operating virtual power plants in electricity grids.”

Mine read 94% at the time. I'm curious what it says when they expose it again.

I assume this previous number was a percentage of total pack size including buffer? I have a feeling they will calculate it with the smaller denominator in whatever they expose to all customers...

Some Rivian owners will go crazy.....for a while. I choose to consider exposing these kinds of numbers as "consumer education".

The discussion will be painful for some, but will result in raising the bar of understanding over time.

No one has mentioned this specifically, but SoH is really important for used car sales. A vehicle with 98% SoH is worth more than one with 88% SoH, all else being equal of course.

I don't like government mandates, so I hope reporting the SoH in used car listings becomes an industry standard via the free market, because buyers demand it.
