Just got my R1T a couple of days prior to leaving on a business trip. Was still chilly when I left, so not many bugs - but now I'm fearing the carnage when I get back...

There have been many mentions in this thread about ceramic and PPF. I've read up a bit on PPF - but can I get a quick primer on ceramic?
In particular something that averts bug-related messes like shown above. Is there an acceptable DIY solution? I've kinda depleted the coffers to acquire this beast. It'd be nice to not have to lay out another $1k+ right away...

On road trips I keepa bottle of spray detailer in the frunk. Takes 2 min when charging to wipe down the nose. Works for me so far

I finally just got my ceramic on after the fact. I should have done it in Normal lol.

At one of the EA/Walmart’s I ended up getting a squeegee for the window.

PPF is on my radar also. Does it help with the bug guts wiping off easier?

IME having PPF doesn't necessarily make wiping it off easier, but the benefit is rather that you can scrub and apply elbow grease without too much worry.

First week with my R1T, I think I’ve killed every bug know to man kind. Anyone else have this much carnage on their vehicles? I guess no grill really lets you see the death cars cause. I’m feeling a good side business, exterminator. I’ll call it Silent but Deadly Pest Control.

Yes! I keep a spray bottle of highly dilluted soap and water and a wash mitt in the gear tunnel to clean the front end and windshield on road trips to pass the time while charging. Front end PPF makes it pretty easy to clean up.

I was new to all this as well and appreciated people sharing. Obviously it'll be an individual's priorities when deciding what to go with depending on budget and need.

Living in Denver, bugs aren't too bad in the city but driving up to the mountains for skiing and hiking you can get a lot of rock chips so PPF was a priority for me to try and protect the paint. The bonus was that I read it makes cleaning easier than not having PPF. From what I read about Ceramic, it makes cleaning a lot easier with bugs and dirt. but didn't really offer the protection from rocks chips.

Ceramic coating probably helps more with ease of cleaning.

But PPF for sure will keep the bug guts off the paint which is good because the acidity can damage your paint if they’re left on too long.

you can also do PPF plus ceramic coating. PPF helps more with rock chip and ceramic helps more with keeping your car clean. Good 1-2 combo together

I tried the 2-piece and gave up after 2 hours. I could have gotten it to work, but the imperfections would have driven me crazy. I'm getting ceramic coating on Monday...

I also discovered Trakwrap, which seems great for road trips and seasonal bug swarms.

This thread is making me itchy. I got a 1200 mile round trip next month (from DC to Indy and back) during prime bug season. I’m wondering whether there is a specific time to avoid the splattering bugs. - like early morning, early evening, etc.
