I also received the message to replace the 12Vs a few days ago. March 23 delivered R1T Quad with two batteries, 29k miles. I paid for the comprehensive inspection about 6 weeks ago and was told the batteries were fine.

Local service center has an appointment early next week or mobile service at the end of the week.

Price estimate is just under $500 plus tax.

No, it is not available via RIDE. if you have That Notification it can only be removed by Rivian service. I had it done yesterday as I exhausted all other options.

Man, it’s really dumb that the customer isn’t able to clear this on their own.

I also got it today. Did they change something in the software to cause so many replacements in such a short time? Seems too much of a coincidence.

I checked the voltage and I'm at 13.3 volts so it must be charging it? Parked all day and checked consumption didn't seem out of the ordinary from normal which is about 3kw a day which always seemed crazy to me.

I'm covered by warranty thankfully.

Just got the same alert on my '23 R1T and scheduled an appointment for 3 weeks from now. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get a call next week offering me a mobile service sooner. I live about 15 mins from the nearest service center.
Just to follow up, I did indeed get a mobile service offer for a week sooner than my service center appointment.

In the meantime I am seeing a couple of small issues and I wonder if they are related. My truck won’t do the latest update (just silently fails) and it seems to fail to update the iOS widgets correctly some times.

Totally understandable if you are used to changing batteries yourself. Unfortunately this is the norm with a lot of higher end cars, not just Rivian. If your vehicle uses a BLS sensors to monitor the battery, then it will require calibration of some sort when they are changed.

A more paranoid Count would wonder if Rivian is using service revenue to hit quarterly numbers? More likely they changed the warning parameters and/or a lot of people are hitting the 3.5 year mark.

They have played with the BMS to balance responsiveness against vampire drain. And certain OTAs had unintended consequences of higher VD or incorrect BMS. I don’t think it’s malicious or one single cause, but a list of reasons… including platform decisions that may not have been best, but too late to correct except to keep replacing 12V. They have test rigs in their engineering lab, to simulate full cars. But, since they make iterative production changes far more often than legacy OEM, wouldn’t surprise me if that resulted in having larger numbers of edge cases that aren’t tested. Several months ago rumor circulated, allegedly from former employee, that going from dual to single may have been a mistake. Every single production car has a list of likely long term problems. This is probably one the R1 will own. Does Xcare cover 12V? Anyone?

I may not be of royal pedigree, but I too have noticed the reversal of the mobile service policy of Rivian and it’s enough to get me to trade mine in. I’m shopping for deals right now and when I find one my R1S will be traded in.

Living 3 hours from a service center means that even minor annoyances are an all day affair. I didn’t spend this kind of money on this thing to be driving 12 hours to deal with repairs each time I have an issue.

I got the latest update on Thursday night and the battery notification Saturday morning.

I checked the energy screen and it looks like it's topping up the battery every hour now.

Maybe it's a software glitch?

Going to do a hard reset and still get a new battery under warranty.

Maybe the battery is losing voltage too fast while at rest indicating the start of an internal short and needs replacement.

I have been running the Ohmmu sodium batteries (2 of them in my 2022 quad) for several months. I originally had the Ohmmu lithium batteries but Rivian didn’t like them after the Halloween 2025 update.

From around Halloween until early February (when the replacement sodium batteries arrived) I had a 12V warning message and my truck never once slept. I believe it stayed awake to keep DC/DC converter active. Beyond the extra vampire drain (No offense, Count) and the inability to update the software, I did not notice any issues.

When the January 2026 software update came out, I paid to have the 12v warning message cleared and the update installed. I had heard an (incorrect) rumor that this update was going to fix the issue with the Rivian software not liking the Ohmmu lithium batteries. The 12v warning came back the next day.

After installing the sodium batteries, I did the 12v reset in the RIDE menu and then (very, very surprisingly) the next morning the 12v error message was gone. And it’s been gone ever since.

That's very interesting. So it's possible there's actually nothing wrong with my battery and the truck is just leaving the DC to DC charger in draining more now.
