I get my entertainment from driving my R1T. All the gee whiz entertainment stuff, other than Apple Music, which adds to my driving experience, just doesn’t do much for me. I can’t see myself sitting around and watching video content on my center display. I get a kink in my neck just thinking about it. I get way more than enough screen time when I’m at home. My R1T is my escape from all that.
This is the correct answer.

I just listen to music and close my eyes during the (rare) charging sessions. Or I take a walk and literally stretch my legs if I’m on a roadtrip. I can’t image desperately needing YouTube or something else to watch for the 20 min or so that I’m connected to the EVSE.

Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on either Teslas or Rivians, are useless.
Change my mind.
Just let me get my Teams notifications on the big screen instead of having to fumble with my phone. So I can know each time it chirps if it's a legit work emergency, or if the boss just clicked on a spam email again. ?

Don't get me started on how confused the truck is, even when stationary, about road lanes and cars in front. Good thing I don't have epilepsy with how much the objects flicker back and forth because the truck can't agree with what positions the objects should be drawn in

" It's the cameras " No, it's shitty quality software logic.

Just in case no one could tell. I have a huge pet peeve with shitty software. And it's mainstream these days. Because companies cut/reduced dedicated QA teams and prioritize shipping fast over shipping quality
This is such an excellent example of a difference of experience I have had with my R1T. I am not saying that to discount what you are experiencing. I simply have never seen this behavior.

I'll take a video and share. Perhaps my truck has a glitch in the H/W or calibration? I've seen a few others mention it too in various places.

I honestly didn't notice a difference between the two when going from G1 to sitting in a G2. It might be a tad smoother.
I hadn't really given it any thought, but the UI is definitely snapper on my G2 than it was on my G1. I really don't have any sort of a lag.

Amen to all of that.

I was bemused this past weekend as I was stopped at a light with a few cars in front of me and both sides. My eyes looking through the windshield saw them waiting patiently at the light, but the renderings on the interior screen had these cars and trucks doing the Hokey Pokey and Electric Slide—bouncing back and forth, flickering, appearing then disappearing.

My guess is this was a vestige of what was supposed to be a robust ADAS in Gen 1, and evidence of how far short of the goal the company was. The only purpose I can think of for including these ghost images in Gen 1 would be if I was going to armor plate my R1T like Clint Eastwood in The Gauntlet, and maneuver my way through downtown Phoenix with the windshield covered with inch-thick steel.

And there are at least two or three responses to your post from folks who have seen the same as you have. ?

Mine does this too. Mildly annoying. I hope they improve it so the stationary cars stay put, at least.

Always odd to see the variations...my climate pops up immediately on my G1.
Mine started that just after the last update. I did the soft reboot and it cleared that right up, back to being snappy for weeks now.
Turns out they must be garbage collecting the memory for the climate panel more frequently than I typically use it. If I access the climate panel, then subsequent taps are within 1s and quick enough. It's just the odd first tap of the day or something that winds up being quite a long, noticeable delay. Same as going into some of the apps/windows like Energy, Music, etc take a long time to load if done infrequently.

I am with everyone else that I hope this update isn’t more features but latency reduction. I’m not a software guy, but I can imagine adding all the new features slows things down and they need to take some time to make things work more smoothly between menus and recognizing inputs.

Everyone who is saying they miss the days when this was prioritized in software should blame the public for it. Everyone spends the time bitching about not having this or that feature so Rivian does what they can to add as many features as they can. Stability and latency are not flashy and therefore people complain when that’s all they release.

Then it gets to a point where enough people recognize it needs to happen and they take an update cycle to make the necessary streamline adjustments. I hope we are reaching that point now.

You should test drive a Gen 2. Night and day difference in the accuracy and stability of on screen visuals. Especially with the most recent update

Is there any indication of whether the 2024.51.0 update will include the long-promised ability for the user to be able to set their own wheel/tire sizing?

Right?

Years ago, it was a standard part of a software project to test and refactor for performance boosts. Today, there are so many layers of libraries, wrappers and apis that refactoring for performance is going down a dark rabbit hole, only to discover the performance issue is in a closed api.

Steve Gibson (old school folks will remember SpinRite) still codes his apps in assembly.
You are supposed to say, “when I was programming we used only 1 and 0”. And then someone will point out “you had 0?”
